How to remove the windshield of a Plymouth Duster / Mopar A body without removing the windshield? This video will go through the steps that I had to take on my 1974 Plymouth Duster, along with some perspective on why and how to fix it for re-installation. Thanks for watching!

If u had to do this again would you have removed the window first ?
@DustorBust
@DustorBust 3 жыл бұрын
That is a tricky question. Yes, and I did end up pulling it anyways. If you are doing a full tear down then I think it makes sense to just pull the window. If you are just making a few changes to the dash or need the space to access something, then I would do it this way and leave it in. Somehow I ended up cracking my windshield. It must have gotten bumped in the garage at some point, so the risk of damage is very real. I think it really depends on why you are removing the dash. Thanks for watching!

Had me excited for a minute because I want to replace the dash in my 72 demon but I watched the video and realized putting the dash back in properly is impossible without removing the windshield ☹️

Hi Shane, sorry for the delay in responding. There might be some options. The original can't come out because of the style clip that holds it. If you used a simple short nut and bolt you should be fine. This is what I did and I believe it should be able to come out if it needs to. Depending on the look you are doing for you could also weld in the top side so it would be like a stud that would lift out. Good luck!

Hey Marco!!! Another great video!!! I've been looking under my 1974 Duster's Dash and was saying to myself, How the heck I'm I gonna get this done! LOL!!! Now I know how to do it. My glass will be out of the car, so I won't have to use the grinder! On another note, check this place out for dash repair! It's out here in California. Great Work!!! Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, did your brake pedal ever have issues returning? My 74 duster has all drum brakes currently (planning on front disc conversion with a new master cylinder) and I have to use my foot to bring the pedal back up to let off the brakes fully.

Hi Tylan, thanks for watching! Regarding your brakes, something is definitely up there. Unfortunately I have not learned about that assembly yet. I expect to be working on it in about a month from now and will drop a video once I get there. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the video. Is is possible turn those clip nuts that were used to fasten the dash upside down, measure and cut a bolt to the exact needed size and feed it up from the bottom like you suggested?
@DustorBust
@DustorBust 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Teagan, Thanks for watching! Yes, that would be one way to do it. The downside would be that the threaded part of the clip would be exposed and visible from the top, but it would work. I probably have a month or two before I redo my dash, but I am thinking of using a weldable nut form the top, something roughly like this: www.grainger.com/product/1LAC8?gclid=CjwKCAiAiML-BRAAEiwAuWVggvPoR7syvxpmI9CW04MpzSEeD39u7_AIrqG4m8DzzRtPvC162T0EMxoCTjEQAvD_BwE&cm_mmc=PPC:+Google+PLA&ef_id=CjwKCAiAiML-BRAAEiwAuWVggvPoR7syvxpmI9CW04MpzSEeD39u7_AIrqG4m8DzzRtPvC162T0EMxoCTjEQAvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!2966!3!281698275324!!!g!471571631001!&gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:4P7A1P:20501231 I can hopefully find one that is the right size and has a closed cap. Tack welding it in place so that the threaded part is below the top of the dash and the cap protects it from hitting the windshield. This is just an idea at this point, but this is where I am leaning. Good luck on yours!!

Hi. I have a 72 Duster, been in our family since 72 when it was born. It only has 74000 original miles. And a beautiful red that Plymouth had that year. Its ALL original, even all the glass. What do think?

I can't for the life of me seem to get the steering wheel off.
@DustorBust
@DustorBust 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Cam, thanks for watching! To take the wheel off of the steering column you need a special tool, the steering wheel puller. I have not done mine yet, but you can find videos if you search for mopar steering wheel puller. I just dropped the whole column for now and will need to rebuild/inspect the whole assembly when I put it back together. Good luck!

Steering wheel puller is a necessity. I got sick of renting one from the auto parts store so I just fabricated my own out of a steel plate and a couple 3/8 bolts and a nut.
