I have -75 royal monaco, its not a -74(hard to find). But it does have "police special" 440. Still running strong with kinda poor maintenance(thanks to previous owners). Never been opened up. Oil stays clean etc. Keep these cars rolling!

i'm a Oldsmobile guy. I learned when that car came out it was a step back Chrysler felt. " To much like the Oldsmobile's" Me as an Olds guy LOVE LOVE 70's Monaco's. the 440 has just the right amount of GO you need in a car of that size. They arn't hot rods but with the 400 option it will go lol. I have a 1982 Olds 307 with a th400 Trans. It's nice and BIG. Nothing better than those big old cars lol.

That's something you don't hear anymore is the old Chrysler gear reduction starter they all had the same sound. Todays shit box cars can't bark the tires with a tap of the throttle. The old 440 is sure a wide block engine.
@71plymouth.9 жыл бұрын
you're sure right that's one thing I do know is that all mopar starters made the same sound for some reason.I like the sound of it it reminds me of wheels spinning in a persons head and then the front porch lights flick on and there the idea I've got to drive my Mopar .I've got a 71 satellite Sebring that I'm trying to do right now and will love to let it eat up the highway once more.Glad to see people still with the classics and the muscle to back it up.Keep on kicking muscle cars.Ow and: Mopar or nocar
@testy4627 жыл бұрын
Comeon man. I'm a fan of the 60s and 70s cars (a big fan).. but you gotta be honest. A freaking 2017 V6 accord or camry would outrun 90 percent of the 60s/70s muscle without breaking a sweat. Mid 13s to mid 14s out of your standard family mover if you check the box for the V6. Even the big block cars would have struggled to trap much more than 103-104 MPH and turn low 13s/high 12s, and they were fairly rare. The standard mustang/challenger/camaro from the 60s with a small block was a 14 second car. Not to mention today's mustang, camaro, challenger, charger, vette... list goes on and on. Its not even a close comparison You can literally go out and buy a 10 second factory stock car with full interior, A/C, banging bluetooth stereo, you name it. To be really disapointed, look at the specs on a mopar 440 from 1974. They made two versions, and the hottest one made 275 horsepower and only turned 4400 RPM.
@Foxonian7 жыл бұрын
I hear you. Sometime in the mid 90's Chrysler switched to a starter that was based on a Mitsubishi design.Nothing odder than hearing your early 2000's Dodge V8 powered truck sound like Honda when you start it up.
@scottkrafft68307 жыл бұрын
+BA_300_AAC Don't even complain about 70s cars. 80s V8s were beyond awful for horsepower. For example, my 1989 Ford Crown Victoria came with Ford's 4.9/5.0 V8. The output: about 135 HP. For comparison, a modern 4-cylinder makes more than that. Even Ford's teeny weeny 3-cylinder is getting pretty close.
