My first vehicle was a 76 F-100 baby blue 300 inline 6 3 on the tree.....I loved that truck...it got great gas mileage....my friends would all pile in and head to the lakes and go swimming.....the 70s were a great time....then after dark get a lot of beer and go cruise the boonies after dark.......what a time it was.

Jonathan I agree my friend has one with Edge performance parts&a stage 2on it&another friend has the 6.6 duramax tuned&bigger turbo,and my other friend has a 7.3powerstroke with bigger turbo&tuned but all three still have old jacked up 4x4's with 7.4L 454's in their Chevy's &one has a 78 f150 with best 351 Ford made the Bigblock Cleveland(351m)&the cheaper Ford 351 was the 351 w which was a small block Windsor that's why a lot of people use them and sports cars cuz they're cheaper to build&able to produce nice horsepower.

Kevin Roark first off, the 351 Cleveland just had different heads and a higher deck with a different manifold (wasn’t a “big block”) , second, Ford never categorized Andy of their engine families as “big blocks”. They were mid blocks. Also, the 351m is part of a good engine family, just underrated. Throw heads, and a manifold on them that aren’t restricted by emissions, and they throw a lot of power. I wished people would stop calling these trucks highboys. 40 years ago I never head anyone saying highboy just 4 wheel drive and 4×4! Like all those automotive baby's that like to say nuisances when describing a vehicle that is heavily optioned. Or have your cake and eat it. Other wise that's a really nice F100 4 wheel drive pick up truck.

I had a 76 f150 short box 4x4 with the 360. I rebuilt that motor but hated it. Poor gas mileage and poor power. I should have put a 390 taken the poor mileage but got more power. Loved the truck and want another one but without the 360.

What's it geared front and back? I had a 79 with an M motor and it was lifted and had 35-12.5 15's under it. The gears were still 3.50 though, and needed at least 4.11 if not 4.56.

The " highboy" was Fords version of a factory lift. Not all the 4X4's were highboys.

Correct. The Highboys are 1967 to 1977.5 F250 with a divorced transfer case with 3 drive shafts. The FE engine that came with the Highboy was a 360, but you can bolt up a 428.
