WOW! Bring back memories for me. My very first Jag was a 1973, XJ6 4.2 SWB in lanvender blue and it was fitted with a full length Webasto manual sliding roof. I found a zoo ticket under the backseat (removed to dry out a deep puddle of water that leaked in through the rear window seal) and it was dated in September 1973 for entry to Whipsnade Zoo in Hertfordshire, England. The car was quite rotten and unreliable but I eventually got it sorted and sold it on. What a collosal mistake that was because it was rare in that colour, wheelbase and an early example. I would buy that car in flash!

In the early 1990s my husband took me to Ian Cummins to view a XJ6 S1 MOD he wanted to buy. Next to the S1 was an immaculate original S2 SWB. As the S1 needed some minor work & my husband had plenty of work to do on our other cars & motorcycles I insisted we buy the S2. The S2 was Turquoise with Cinnamon trim. Like your car, there was no air-con or electric windows. We only sold the car a couple of years ago as we needed air-con as we got older. My husband recently bumped into the new owner who loves the car & has since fitted after market air-con. The S2 get a bad rap as being unreliable & having poor finish. Our car had some panel gaps on the boot that were not exactly right but the car never let us down & did many interstate trips towing our race bikes to meetings.

Such a lovely example… arguably the best colour for an SII and an SWB as well ! It really deserves to be driven and shown off. It’s funny you say the SWB cars look more balanced when the rear doors are shorter than the fronts… in theory the LWB later cars should look better but it wasn’t till the Pininfarina SIII arrived that everything finally clicked !

That S2 is a beauty , well sorted to and very rare being SWB, i had a dark blue 4.2 swb man/od back in the 90's with a webasto sunroof , i relunctly sold it in 2000 when the block cracked , i should of kept that 1

Lovely car. They had quite a range of colors/interiors in the 70’s. We had a few when I was young. The most 70’s tastic was a ‘74 XJ12L painted Sand Green with either Cinnamon or Biscuit interior …can’t remember which. It is interesting to see ROW Jags with crank windows, painted wheels, no a/c, sometimes cloth interior. USA spec cars, at least by the time the series 2 came about, were always fully decked out. I just took a look at the dealer brochure I have from 1978. It lists options for both the 6L and 12L: none

Had an early-74 XJ6, late -73 build. SWB, BRG with tan interior. Lhd & _with_ power Windows! Even had the XJ12 chrome wheels w/ hubcaps as a bonus. Probably one of the last built before BL took over and ruined quality for some years. Unrestored runner, dailied this for some years, like 2007 to 2012. Unfortunately had to part with it for a number of practical reasons. Coolest ride I've ever had. Biggest regret of all sales 😢 Miss it badly, still shows in my dreams at times... 🌟 Congrats to bagging a fresh specimen 🎉

Nice to have you back after your bikers trip. This one is a beauty, half your luck. I can only buy over-priced wrecks that need years of work. Currently I'm fitting a new steering rack and the pump to my '73 S1 and changed all the front bushes. £1500 in parts and my own labour. One lower pivot bolt was seized in but I kept at it for 3 weeks and got it to shift with a home made press. And used my secret formula release oil. LOL acetone/tranny fluid mix. Can't wait for the next one Brett. All the best, Geoff Fae Scotland.

Well no, you don't neeeeeed this car. And worse you'll be bored with nothing more to do on it. Except the rubber seals in the fuel caps. And except other little niggles you're bound to find. And except with a vehicle of this age, there's always more you COULD do. So, OK, you won't be bored. Thanks for posting. It's not just the cars that are aging. With an extended pause, there's a part of me that wonders, is he still OK? I love your videos, especially putting to right what has gone wrong. Best wishes to you and yours.

Sounds like poorly adjusted top timing chain. That is a pommie car - no A/C and MPH speedo, which has been covered over with a cheap stencil. Windscreen wiper arms , RH arm fitted where left should be and visa versa. No engine bay cross braces fitted. Pretty good otherwise, but with those detail items wrong, who knows what else lies, or is hidden, beneath. That said, it will be one of the best surviving examples of a great car.
@tjmthejagmandownunder2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the detailed observations. You could not hear any chain noise when I took the video, but you can certainly hear it now.. It’s AU delivered according to the books, I'll have to double check the numbers! I must ask him about the cross brace. The early picture shows half a one!
