Introduction
The First Range Rover SUV
Power strength and safety
Permanent Four Wheel drive with high and low ratio gear ranges
Coil sprung suspension making a comfortable ride over road and rough terrain
When released a claimed 050mph time of 11 seconds claimed. Potentially more with modern upgrades.
Steel cage with Aluminium exterior panels
Easily operated and undeniably Range Rover tailgates
There is no need to travel light with a Range Rover
Large doors and folding seats not only make this variation of the range rover the most visually appealing but easy to live with and use.
With humble underpinnings the range rover shared the simple yet strong ladder chassis design of the Land Rover but with significantly advanced suspension style that would be later be employed to the 90 and 110 range.
Servo assisted all round disc brakes
With a special self energising ride levelling unit the range rover would keep its composure even under heavy load and towing. A featured that was pioneered by the Range Rover and evident in modern SUVs
Powertrain and transmission
Power is derived from a variation of the long serving and versatile rover V8. Originally beginning in the 1950s a Buick unit the Rover v8 powered iconic British cars right into 2000’s. From MG, Triumph, Land Rover, TVR, Morgan and of course Rover. This aluminium lightweight block has proven it’s reliability, flexibility and tunability from 4x4s to race cars.
In Range Rover variation the V8 was set up with a 8:5:1 compression ratio allowing use of low octane fuels.
With an all Synchromesh gearbox along with a high and low transfer box the power was delivered with the expected controls of any off road vehicle. But increased comfort and style
