They provided a great service even out to the suburbs...I used them going to Uni and too work 😀

My brother and I were one of the first black taxis on the road . My last registration was Jgd707l. We filled our tanks from our central heating oil tank . No chance of ever getting stopped by revenue.

I remember travelling in some of these Taxis, the earlier ones were literally falling apart, some broke down halfway through the journey. The Taxis were a way of giving a lot of ex Prisoners an income and also paramilitaries drove them as they were often unemployed and the Busses were deliberately burned so the Taxis took the trade, the same with city centre pubs being bombed so the shebeens (Illegal pubs) were set up in working class areas to fund the troubles and work for people in the communities.

Im honestly quite surprised this posh Englishman was thrown at the cabs back then, especially along the Falls, but it shows that actually 99.9% of the people here were dead on. And not as the media portrayed them. The service is still going now. And quite a few are the old FX4s. They drop off at Castle Street, back of Castle Court. They were essential for both communities, but especially the catholic areas. They have of course changed with the times, and a big tourist attraction now is black cab tours of the loyalist and republican areas.

Something reminiscent of the Philippino Jeepney, except less colourful. Well, one colour. Black. But some very colourful characters on their journeys, I suppose.

In many cities in Thailand, this concept has been in use for decades. The usual chassis type in today's Cab is the Iszuzu Truck body (called a Utility in Australia), with two bench seats facing each other in the covered rear tray body. Passengers hail the "Red Cab" (Songthew in Thai) or Blue or Yellow or White depending on the geographic journey known by each community and pay the driver a small fee of about 20 to 30 Baht for a trip down a major highway from the city center to any location along that highway to the periphery, and sometimes a popular location off the highway. School children get a similar but localized round journey specifically attuned to their Primary or Secondary school running at correct times for lessons. The common European type bus service so easily utilized in those countries exists in Bangkok and to a minor degree in Chiang Mai, but haven't been as popular. In the past decade, Taxi Cabs in large Thai cities (like those used in Europe and America) are now competing with "Grab-Cars" that are secured over the phenomenon of on-line services via passengers smart-phones, and may eventually take over the whole known universe 😅😅

I’m ex service I served in Northern Ireland I can’t sleep right now I’m drunk seeing masked Irishmen at the bottom of my bed in balaclavas with that strong Belfast accent telling me “night night tell Jesus I said what’s the craic” while the other one slowly walks up towards me grinning his teeth together in unexplainable anger then bang it’s all over. And this happens over & over & over. Every. Single. Night. God bless you. Time 22:42

I’m not happy with this video, it needs reporting. It is sexist (he talks about taxis being for gentlemen), then it is dangerous by showing so many people crammed in. It’s reckless of the bbc showing this.
