Guy living with the cats, starts jabbering with his pal (pub mate) & talks about contacting his kids (grown middle aged people now) whom he abandoned when they were children. And the only reason he says this, is because he’s now 80 years old & wants THEM, to look after HIM. What an insult to them. You reap what you sow brother.

There is a significant difference between poor and indegent... For many complex reasons UK society has created a vast underclass. The working class has largely become the working poor ... A situation that will only deteriorate massively over the next 100 hrs. The culture impoverished ppl lived within during the first 2/3rds of the 20th century bears no comparison to the 21st century situation. None.

We thought the same thing. Tattoos are hugely expensive. Not to mention it seems like every single person in this documentary owns at least one dog. Dogs themselves without the vet bills are expensive enough to feed. We don't have a dog Now basically because I don't want the expense of a vet Bill. I do feel sorry for the old fella and the caravan with his cats though I think he's just ended up feeding a couple of cats and now he's feeding everybody else's.

To be fair, these properties were only originally built as holiday chalets. I don’t think they were ever designed to function as really long-term permanent homes. Add to that the exposure to the wind and damp, lack of maintenance and bodge jobs by cowboy builders or amateur DIY practitioners trying to save a bit of cash, it’s no wonder the homes are in such a state.

Here was me thinking, buying cleaning products costs money 🤔 Unless you expect them to steal the items. You've obviously never suffered from depression, where you don't want to get up & carry on & don't care, or see, what a mess things are around you. Imagine living in such rundown conditions around you & being at your lowest, for whatever reason & maybe having other health conditions, or educational needs, that prevents you from pulling yourself up! Imagine something happens in life, where you just don't care anymore, because you feel so lost & empty & don't have any support network to help & guide you. It gets to a point, where it's so bad, you don't know where to start, to try & sort things out & you give up!! You switch off to it, because it's the only way to get through the days. Maybe, you've not had an easy life & then something else happens, that's the straw that broke the camels back & things spiral out of control & you don't know where to turn, or start to try & make things better. You just exist each day & are surprised you are still here. When people hit rock bottom, they don't think logically! You're glad to just get through another day, without something else going wrong! It's easy to judge, when our lives are going ok & we are capable of thinking straight & sorting things out. It's easy when you have family & friends there, to support & guide you through the bad times. Some people don't have that & have never had that, or the best education etc & every day is a struggle, just to get through that day! It can just take one thing, like losing a partner or child, having an accident that leaves you disabled, your partner or child having an accident & you having to care for them etc., to set you on a downward spiral. It's easy to say, it will never happen to us, until it does!

Dad always managed to get us food, mum did HP & little loans & bought material & her friends would make us clothes, she would buy a bar of chocolate 🍫 as a little treat & we would share. They taught me & my sister so much, our baby brother never felt the hardship. It was the best lesson in life! I have no regrets! Despite the label my grandmother told me every morning the women would be washing their front door step and generally cleaning up any rubbish in front of their small flats. They had pride in themselves and their appearance to the outside world. I've got no time for people who live in squalor. And I know owning your own property massively increases the likelihood that it will be properly maintained. There are people on benefits who just give up on themselves and where they live. The reason for places like this being so run down, is totally incompetent councils, not maintaining the areas. The lack of councils that don’t maintain areas, leads to no investment from businesses, that would employ the population of the area. When are councils going to be held accountable for not following a council’s primary purpose in local communities. It’s way passed time the directors and senior management in councils were sacked for gross negligence and total incompetence in the work place. An they should be sacked and lose their pensions and bonuses. Bet the councillors and directors and council staff areas don’t look like this area?
@mrnumba154
@mrnumba154 10 күн бұрын
Maybe but unfortunately councils are reliant in money coming in to maintain the local area. With so many receiving council tax support I can imagine that there his a huge shortfall because central government only cover part of that cost.
@Vince_Paul
@Vince_Paul 10 күн бұрын
@ if you see the size of Tendring District Council and the area it covers, they are not short of money. They also seem to be able to waste money on AI technology. Without question this is a council negligence of an area, it is meant to be looking after. The directors, senior management and councillors need sacking. They have very clearly broken a councils primary purpose which is why we have councils. To provide services and maintenance and maintain the areas under their control. Other areas under the council have not gone without funding to be maintained or services.

People need to learn to respect others and not judge how they live. We can all help others by passing on the useful tips we've learnt and it helps a lot more to not judge others for how they live nor for how they / their homes look.

Anyone with some savvy understands buying a property around Jaywick is a cheap sound investment. Any of the seaside towns around the S/E coast dying on their arse will not remain the same forever. Having spent 14mnths inspecting social housing in Jaywick for decent homes refurbishments contracted to the local council I visited hundreds of property's and the living conditions are no different from the majority of homes I inspect in central London. You want to use the word " poverty " for residents in Jaywick ! Apart from mental health issues, I will use the words Drink/Drug/Gambling/Smoking addictions and piss poor education for the children that looks to be decades old to explain why Jaywick is so run down. I only came across 1 person living in true poverty during my inspections and the elderly lady was so set in her ways she refused all help.

I spent over 2 years living in a 2 man tent in a place called stockley park in London and even i managed to maintain higher levels of cleanliness than these people. Maybe it wasn’t the most moral way of life but there was no other options. I used to watch people enter their security codes to access the golf club at stockley park and I’d go in and use their showers every day, any time there was an event on at the big venue there which was almost every night, I’d go up and pretend to be a guest to take some of their food, I also got my hands on one of those detaggers (those magnetic things that are at the checkouts in supermarkets) and I’d go to shops and take the security tags off of suits and wear them until I couldn’t anymore and then I’d go back to other shops for another suit (was just what I wore at the time and couldn’t get access to a washing machine) but even my tent was always clean and tidy, these people have got full houses and live like this, it’s madness

Do they not use dehumidifiers to control moisture in the UK? Also, a lot of these properties seem to have leaky windows and "damp" issues which probably means roof and or the moisture barrier has been compromised.....does no one inspect rentals before they allow people to rent? Seems like a decent landlord would fix those issues.

Weird. Imagine coming home telling your family a group of teenagers pulled a knife on you walking along the beach. On things that’s never happened, this never happened loooool

@ if you have any street knowledge, or common sense, you can clearly see this woman is not telling the truth. Why tf would a group of teenagers pull a knife on her and she ran off 😹🙈

The Ex gangster should have thought about putting something aside each week FOR A PENSION! You reap what you sow.! This is the problem with the UK. The population believes that the Government will look after them (and in many circumstances ir does)! Giving benefits so that the lazy dont have to work just provides more time for shoplifting and other crime. It must be nice not having to work for a living. Good luck with that. You can see where they end up!

Yes but in all fairness the man seemed to be getting on with his situation, it was the councillor that wanted to help him. He wasn't asking for handouts.
