1974 Toyota Corona Mark II Coupe 2JZ -GTE Build Project
The Toyota Corona Mark II coupe is so rare and unknown that you’ll only find some occasional photos with it over the Internet and maybe a Japanese brochure for the Mark I version. Still it’s one of the most beautiful 2-door coupes Toyota ever made.
It’s definitely the best-looking Corona model ever been in production and seeing its sleek fastback shape from a distance, you could swear its an american musclecar. If the old Celica Coupe is seen as Japan’s Mustang, the Corona MkII X20 series can totally be considered as their version of a Charger or Barracuda.
However, the export version came fitted with either a 2.3-liter inline-six producing 108 hp or a slightly larger 2.6 one doing 122 hp. Kinda weak if you consider the 70’s Dodge Charger.
That’s why Victor decided to give his newly built Corona MkII a new more modern heart. He kept it Toyota all the way and fitted the cramped engine bay a 2JZ -GTE bi-turbo power plant, transforming it into an automotive Hulk version, also aided by that deep luster green body shade perfectly complimented by a black side stripe.
The engine has been left pure stock to make out the most out of its reliability, because Victor is using this awesome Corona as a daily driver. Sir we salute you.

The '74 Mark II was my very first car. I bought it in 1976 from Call Worthington Ford dealer in Long Beach Ca for $2,200.00. it was a 2 door 4 speed car and having the 2.6 litre 6 cylinder made it I total sleeper! I replaced the stock muffler with a straight through Thrush muffler and rigged the vacuum operated second barrel on the carb to be mechanical. Back in those days a lot of guys had Datsun trucks, 510's and VW bugs and Gia's. The only typical foreign cars I couldn't beat were the 240/260/280Z cars. Back then kids my age didn't have exotic cars. When it was still there I took it to Orange County International Raceway to drag race legal and safer than on the street. I had a lot of great times and have lots of great memories of the time I had that car. But then I built a 66 Mustang.... ;)

I believe it had either ; 18 R 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder Engine. Eyes opener on Toyota, at that time. Later, Crown & Cressida made The news. Land cruiser, like a Rock since then.

Nice to see the 1973 model year bumpers on there over the 1974 "guard rails" with the rubber "push blocks" to the sides of the license plate that the car had in the start of the video The black color bumpers and the side body stripes really added to the appearance and I fell that they are are era appropriate as a number of US Chrysler products had similar styling treatments on the side. And that 2-JZ puts out like 4 times the HP that the original 2M 2 liter 2 barrel carbureted engine did. Era appropriate wheels, giving it a nice stance. The interior was done nicely, too; especially the carbon fiber trim around the gear selector on the center console.
