The rectangular front lights of a mid 70's Mark 3! Rare as hen's teeth nowadays. I would give anything to own a 2000E version from '75 or '76.

With the hindsight of 40+ years the Mk 3 was the best looking of the Cortinas. Unfortunately I never had one, I had three Mk 2's and a Mk 4 Estate with a black vinyl roof. My personal preference would be a Mk 3 pre face-lift 2 litre GXL.

Once had one of these. I remember seeing one in Wellington that look absolutely stunning. I think it still had the rostyle wheels although it may have been 5 slot mags, and had the chrome pin striping removed and the Mk 4 plastic waist trim fitted instead a bit lower. Very subtle change but made it look fantastic. Was very tempted to try and get some of that trim for mine, before it was stolen. At least once I got into the wrong car in the car park because it looked outwardly the same as mine and the keys opened it. You only needed another set of Cortina keys to steal one. This reminds me of when a flatmates friends turned up in some little Japanese car, and managed to lock their keys inside. We were about to smash the window but I had a tin of old keys and we tried a few, and lo and behold one key opened it.

I'm biased when it comes to Cortina Mk3s. My Dad had a '71 K reg 2000GXL as his first company car, followed by a '74 2000E in signal orange. I've owned a few in my time and loved them all but none were in as immaculate condition as this beautiful example.

Lucky you i would love a mk3 2000E. My mate has got a minter 2000e same colour as the one in this video but he has made a few sensible mods it's got a sierra 5 speed box to cruise better and he has very cleverly put electric power steering on it. But he is a ex ford mechanic probably beyond my scope 😂

Lovely looking car. For some reason, the Cortina was never a good seller in North America.
@furiousdriving5 жыл бұрын
Too small at the time maybe? Was it sold as a Merkur or was that just the Sierra?
@jasoncarpp77425 жыл бұрын
@@furiousdriving It's hard to say why it didn't sell well. I remember when the Merkur was sold here in the USA. I found it more attractive at the time than the Ford Taurus that was sold here. In terms of size, it was about the same size as the Toyota Camry. So I don't think that size had anything to do with it. What I didn't like about the cars was its name. I would've preferred either *"Ford XR4ti",* or the *"Mercury Scorpio",* rather than *"Merkur".* I remember first hearing the name and was like *"Merkur?* What the hell is that?"

Never forget those knocking camshafts. They never seemed to put anybody off. Great cars Mk3s, especially the estates, they weren't far off the size of Volvos.
