54k miles for a Goldwing is just broken in. Those boxer 4's will go hundreds of thousands of miles. They're really fantastic bikes. Would love to see a full restoration on that. It's a prefect candidate.

Gas tank is in the frame l think, my brother in law had one for years before that he had a Honda CB 750 before that , he had a Suzuki T250J & l bought it , now l have a GSX 1400 ( 08) 😱😱😱😱😂😂😂😂

My 78 is my favorite bike. Probably of all time. If you keep it pit a bigger back tire on and upgrade the front brake calipers. Really the only weak points of these bikes. ♥️♥️

Agree.. collectors love them. I guess the yellow one is even rarer. I'm 62 years old and have only seen a yellow one one time before. The most common is red or blue. One of the best bikes ever that came from Japan.

Hey Joe, your Grandpa is at peace now and no longer suffering. He'll live on in your memories.. About those series 1 Goldwings, they are super smooth and robust bikes that'll do BIG mileages if looked after. Very heavy, but the mass is close to the ground so once on the move very stable and smooth to ride. I like those early ones best. I think the weak spot is the water pump seals, so watch out for that. They're super complex bikes and I'm impressed with how you tore into it without any problems! Ace video , thanks for the entertainment!

Awesome man! Both of my Grandpas were heros to me! One got me an old briggs engine to tear into and the other gave me an old craftsman mower. Little did I know it would start a career that I'm still in 35 years later. Grandparents are golden man and I'm who I am because of them. Your grandpa had great taste! I owned a '79 wing that I rebuilt from the bottom up. It's one of the smoothest running and lowest maintenance bikes I've ever owned. Mine had a full fairing and Honda saddle bags and a large top bag. Many a long fun drive.

I had a 81 Goldwing 1100 I tore down like you just did. It was time consuming to say the least. At the end when it was back together it was total satisfaction. The hardest part, if I recall, was putting the timing belts back on so the timing was correct. The cams are quite difficult to get lined up due to a spring like action moving the gears. You'll see

First and foremost, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandpa. He seems like a great man and you say he got you started working on bikes. I'm sure he would be proud of you. This gold wing is a beautiful bike. I love how bike and beastly the old gold wings like this were before they started adding all the fairings to the later models. Well done getting her freed up and I can't wait to hear it run in the next video. Yes that bike came out in 1975, I bought a Yamaha 750XSE, toured around here Australia, clocked up 150000km. THAT bike and the Yamaha 1300 were seriously powerful bikes, lots of fun to have. Never had any serious accident, my 750 cost $2400 including registration. Here from Sdyney Australia Penshurst actually.

Both those bikes are nice and complete by barn find Goldwing standards. Usually they're pretty hacked up, but your Grandpa obviously cared about them. Here's hoping you'll save them both. Good job getting it un-seized! I have a red '75 and there are a couple videos of it on my channel if you need motivation at any point. Highly recommend Randakk's Cycle Shakk for GL1000 parts, particularly carb rebuild kits. Also a factory service manual is indispensable. Looking forward to the next video!

First and foremost, my condolences for you and your family. You may want to check out the production numbers on the yellow bike. Should be a 1976 and that was the only year for that color up until 2018 or so. I have one very similar to it. I don't ride much anymore but I bought it about 25 years ago with less than 5000 miles. It has Samsonite luggage and a Windjammer fairing. When I retire it's one of the projects that I have collected over the years to restore to original condition. As many have suggested they are great reliable bikes. You will want to change the timing belts right away as these are interference engines. Also they will sometimes develop a leak at the water pump, which is usually an o-ring that is no longer listed as available for the GL1000. Good news was (is?) the kit for the GL500 would work. I look forward to seeing more on these bikes.

Sorry to hear about your grandpa, I've lost my fair share of grandparents over the years and it's always no fun. As far as the goldwing goes, I had a 1982 GL1100 for awhile. They're infamous for the valve seals going out and smoking on start-up. Turns out, its just because of how the bike sits on its kick stand. Everything rushes to that side of the engine and wears it all down. While you're in there anyways, I'd go ahead and change those and your timing belts out, especially at that high mileage. You also may check out the 34 pict 3 mod. It swaps all the factory carbs for one old VW style carb and makes it all so much simpler. Sweet bikes man! That'd be a great his/hers combos for you and Jade! Love your videos and I've learned a ton from ya. Sorry again about your grandpa, goldwing guys are the best 😪

Had a friend of mine who bought a new old stock bike like these, it was still in the box from 1975 and he bought it in 1984. 3 months later a drunk kid ran it over with his car and totaled it.

Lovely bikes . 54,000 miles is nothing to a Honda if it's maintained properly . I've a CG125 with 40,000 miles on it , regular oil changes , and I've never even had the valve cover off . Use it every day .
