Foolish Pleasure was bred in Williston, Florida. A small town south of Gainesville, Florida. What a great horse who has descendants to the present day.

I recall watching the weatherman John Coleman on ABC in Chicago saying he liked Foolish Pleasure in the Kentucky Derby. I was 9 years old and had never watched a horse race but for some reason his prediction intrigued me so I made a point of watching and when Foolish Pleasure won I was hooked. He and I share a birthday, October 15. John Coleman recently passed away. RIP

He was a great horse. I had the privilege of visiting him in retirement at Spendthrift Farm in 1989. He was a fairly mean horse, however.

Good commentary and we really get to see the horses warming up. I wish the current commentators would get rid of the fast cut style and just let the cameras roll on the post parade and the horses warming up...more like a news style. Again, thanks for posting the video...quite a trip down memory lane :)

One reason I like to watch these videos of old races is to be reminded of horses I "knew" and liked back in the day--not necessarily good or successful horses but ones whose name appealed to me for no apparent reason. In this case it was Bombay Duck. I don't know anything about his career, whether he won any significant race or was successful at stud. I just got a kick out of the silly name and it stuck with me for a long time. It was years later that I found out it wasn't completely random--the Bombay Duck is in fact a fish!
@MDCSWildcats862 жыл бұрын
Bombay Duck was 2nd in the 1975 Wood Memorial (15 horses strong that year). He led every step of the way, but was caught at the last moment by none other than Foolish Pleasure.

Chic Anderson tried to hem and haw his way out of the blown call with his "they were bunched on the turn" line, but Foolish Pleasure was already out of traffic and in fourth, on the inside and well clear of the cavalry charge behind him. Chic was one of the greats, but this one was a big "Oops!"

The two California colts bumped into each other, Chic blew the call, saying the field was too bunched (it wasn't), back then before Bob Baffert and Doug O'Neill Cali horses rarely contended in the Kentucky Derby--in 1975 they might have run one/two....

Chick Anderson was a great horse caller but he did totally mess this one up. He didn’t even acknowledge that it was a mistake it was almost like he was pretending foolish pleasure came out of nowhere. And the ABC announcers never acknowledge that either. At least Chick got it right at the finish line.

Man, what a butchered call. Not an easy job to call a horse race, especially with that much pressure, but the announcer called Foolish Pleasure as the horse on the rail in the far turn. Im surprised he lost track of him in mid stretch. Wasnt as though there was a ton of horses near the lead.
