I named my Ford Mustang after Genuine Risk I wanted to name my car after a filly that won the Kentucky derby And genuine risk seemed to be the most appropriate Because my cars a mustang which is known for being a dangerous car for a novice driver But this clip was so inspiring Seeing my cars namesake beat the skin out of all the other horses That’s amazing

I never get tired of watching this. Another filly needs to win this; Winning Colors was the last and that was in 88.

We may never see another filly even run in the Derby since they established the point system that's in use today. Fillies don't compete with colts in the preliminary races so they don't accumulate the points needed to qualify.

Vasquez gave her the perfect ride. Kept her out of trouble, saved ground and took her outside the speed horses. That put her in perfect position for the run down the stretch and it was a beautiful run too. She still had a little over a length on Rumbo at the finish. He was coming but she was running. "And, she's genuine!" That line always brings me to tears. What a gutsy little filly....not much bigger than Meadow Star...if anyone remembers her.

The filly proved to be good fortune for the Phillies as they won their first World Series that year.They won their second in 2008,the year that she died. Why couldn't Rachel Alexandra be entered in the 2011 Derby?

Turcotte, Cauthen, Cordero get their recognition; Vasquez proved to be no slouch in his own right. He won the Derby twice and was the regular rider of Ruffian while she set records.

The Phillies won their first World Series that year. When she died in 2008,they won for the second time. In that 2008 Derby,Eight Belles finished second to Big Brown,who collapsed in the Belmont due to NY's non drug policy.
