1975 Mercedes-Benz 230.6 w114 the ancestor E-class by Paul Bracq

In September 1973, the whole 114/115 series underwent extensive model revision; countless details, which had been introduced into the SL and SLC Types respectively, and also in the S-Class now were incorporated into the models of the less prestigious product line, improving the general safety concept. To name but a few: exterior rear mirrors, which could be adjusted from inside the car, dirt repelling decorative trims at the A-pillars, which kept the side windows clean even in poor weather, profiled, soil-repellent taillights as well as a roof rail at the rear window. The four-spoke security steering wheel, which was a familiar feature of product lines 107 and 116, had been integrated into serial production of the „Stroke Eight“ types half a year prior to model revision. From March 1973, headrests and automatic safety belts became part of the serial equipment of 114/115 series models.
As part of the facelift carried out in August 1973 two new 4-cylinder engines were introduced; the 240 D was now the top Diesel model and the 230.4 replaced the 220. The suffix Ř“ in the designation of the new 230 was necessary to avoid confusion with the original 230 models with a 6-cylinder engine, which was still available as the 230.6. In July 1974 there was a further addition to the range: the 240 D 3.0, which was the first 5-cylinder Diesel-engined car in the world. Its 3-liter engine provided 80 hp - a remarkable performance for a Diesel car in those days.

Absolutely beautiful example. My first Mercedes was a 4 cyl 1971 200, but it was a little under powered, a 6 cyl 230 would have been ideal. But I ended up upgrading to a 1972 280S W108, and totally fell in love with it. Thanks for the memories!

This type 114.615 with M180 R6. Type 115 was never equipped with six-cylinder engines.

W115 were the ones that had the 4 cylinder gas and diesel engines. The 240d 3.0 was also w115 even though it had the OM617 5 cylinder diesel.

I stole my dads one day whilst he was out, I was 14 and went cruising with some friends, before he came back I washed it and parked it in the garage. A few day’s later he asked me if I had touched his car, I said no, he hauled off on my face and hit me with a Tyson blow... don’t lie he said , I’ll give you one more chance, did you take my car..... yes I answered , still dazed, he said ok, don’t lie to me and walked away. For about a week I couldn’t work out how he knew, was it the mileage, did some one see me?, when I had the balls to ask he laughed and told me, he’d put a match under the rear wheel so when I backed out the car it snapped!!!! .... that was how he knew!.... he loved that car but never really drove it, Shame, 3 years later he passed and the car got sold, I’d kill to own that car now.

Nice but i prefer w116 .....but w116 (a fortiori Lwb 450 6.9...)..are very expensive (like my 2 S600 w140& w220)..... if you need a very good oldtimer able for long trips w114 its the best choice

Paul Bracq...There is nothing to brag about with them ugly muffler tip and them mud guards.
