I adore the W123. We had a 230E during the 90's and it was undoubtedly the best car we've ever owned. It was like a tank and in my opinion I believe that it was the last of the properly built Mercedes-Benz.

Wow great vid...123T in the family still from new..280TE..dad 'gave' me in 92 after many years of borrowing(after he bought a new car I just never returned it lol), gave to my brother in 2001 for repair bill ,paying his last repair bill and taking it back to do a slight resto and keep..Epic series of cars that witnessed history firsthand and continues to do so..

Indeed the W123 C123 and S123 were the BEST cars ever made !!! They may have not been the most elegant car , i guess in that Rolls n' Jags were , but their built quality was definitely outta this world !!! I have a now 37 year old s123 =230TE , she was born in Dic of 1984 , and to this day , if not for some natural road minor damages like mini stone hits on the paint and a few scratches , she is practically just like new !!! with now 180thousand Km ! Still accelerates close to 12sec to100 and reaches the 200km/h effortlessly ! , handling curves almost better than any other car of today and a ride simply superb !!! In all this years she has only needed a disk replacing of the automatic gear box and the front suspension , the rest were just simple services ! Everything still works ! ...oh and just recently the rear hydraulic shocks have gone bad !... I can bet no on else can say this about other cars !!!... sadly including all the post 1985 Mercs , specially after the 210 !

In 1977 my Father saw this movie or one just like it at the NY auto show. It convinced him to purchase a MB for his retirement. Although he passed on shortly after my Mom drove that Caledonia Green 240D for 16 years, then I bought from her and drove it another 5 years. Sold it for good money too.

My W123 240d is a kick in the head to drive. It may be a diesel but I have no problems keeping up with traffic. Just recently I modified the air intake a put a pvc y pipe to push more air into the engine. It has reduced the smoke and it has a bit more zip to the take off. I just put a Klima a/c unit and it gets very cold now in the cab. I am still trying to come up with a way to install a cab filter.

kermitefrog64 I did the same with my 83 300d. Diesels love 30 to 1 air to fuel. On occasion I put 20% NEW veg oil( homemade B20)...$4 plus/gal.. but cleans carbon build up...smells great...quiets the clatter...and zero smoke. And she has 225K...just broken in! I did WVO in a single tank, heated system for ten years on my non turbo 300 (now parts car). Big oil put a $1.20 market value on WVO and manufacture B20 and B5. Now WVO almost impossible to collect from restaurants! The non turbo IP finally gave out with UNKNOWN THOUSANDS of miles on the engine. I recommend a moly or quality lubricity fuel additive, if you use veg oil. Even at 20%! Cheers👍🏾 PS: where does one buy that Klima AC unit?

Once he broke shift, he got stuck on mountain, but only rear speed worked, so he climbed mountain rear, but story wos"who destroys mercedes shift, he will get new w123 for free"Unfortunately he destroys too late 😌
