That was my first motorcycle. My mother bought it for me from a friend of hers for $100. I was 8 years old and it was 1978 when I got it. It started a lifetime of love of riding. Me, my brother and many of our friends learned to ride on that bike. It’s great to see a survivor after all these years 👍

They made the bikes to last in the 70s and up to 80 or so ??? I love alll the older bikes. Solid and simpler less things to go wrong. Spark plug or carb easy to figure out why it won't start , fun bikes. Thanks Ken your a hero for these bikes your keep them alive

I love those original paint jobs. 15 years ago I Had a gas tank collection of 100 + tanks.60 of them with original paint .15 years ago I moved back to my parents house as they were getting quite old and needed help around the house .When I came back my dad saw the truckload of gas tanks and froze said no way r u to unload that worthless junk which serves no purpose here get rid of them today I waited about a week advertised a few no luck selling them tried selling the whole lot by word of mouth .I ended up throwing about 10 to 20 rusty roached tanks at the scrapyard .I couldn't do it .So I Decided to give them to a special friend who has a motorcycle collection at his personal mancave - shop and the nice ones are hanging on the walls .I get to see them every so often when I visit and over the years when I aquire a bike and a gas tank is absolutely needed it's been a blessing on a few occasions .

I worked and saved money from age 9 till age 12 to buy a new one in 1972. Then I got a YZ-80-A in 1974.. Put a GYT Kit on it in 1975.. then in about 1977 I bought a Used '75 GT-80 and I put a GYT Kit on it and did lots of port work .. If the engine even got "on the Pipe" it would blow out the headlight ..then all the rivets sheared off on the flywheel so I put an Internal Rotor CDI on it from a YZ-80-C .. that really woke it up .. I modified mine from 4.5 HP to about 18 HP at least 16 HP .. Could still buy leaded Premium back in those days ..

My first bike in 1978. My dad gave me the motor in a box until I paid him back for the bike. We rebuilt the motor (piston and rings only) together, but my mom didn't want me riding it so my dad left the carb in pieces. My dad worked nights so I rebuilt the carb myself at 11 years old put fuel and oil in it and had it running. My mom freaked out when I came ripping around the yard on the bike while my dad was asleep. I rode the wheels off that thing then taught my brother to ride on it, he was 7 years younger. Upgraded to a new 78/79 YZ80 mono shock air cooled after we were in a bad car accident, kept the GT80 for many years.

My first bike. It was a hand me down from my big brother. He got it new but it was improperly jetted from the factory. So it sat for 10 years. I convinced my dad to take it to a shop when I was 10 years old. They put in the correct jets and she fired up and ran great. I rode it like a bandit up until my mid teens. Mom sold it in a garage sale later on. Wish I still had it

Not to argue but that's not the most bullet proof motor. The Honda SL70 4 stroke was. I know because I tried to kill mine as a kid daily. It can't be killed. This thing all you got to do is mix the fuel wrong which happened all the time with kids. So no it wasn't most bullet proof made. NOW >>>>> IT'S BEAUTIFUL IN MY EYES..
