Entertaining football at its best. Full of personality and great goals.

Showbiz indeed, but whereas Marsh treated the whole thing as a laugh Best gave his utmost during his time at Fulham and produced some wonderful moments of football even if he had lost his pace by then. Every ground we visited that season had a full house. When I joked to a Luton fan that they’d all turned up to see Fulham, he retorted that Best playing had quadrupled their normal gate! Happy days.

Best and Marsh turned it on a couple of times for the cameras but did little else. Fulham finished 7 places higher in the league the season after they left.

I have mixed emotions watching this footage now. I actually reckon it was a bit 'style over substance'...and this particular game marked the start of an awful run. Although it's hard not to smile at Best and Marsh really having a laugh, I'm still not sure what exact positive legacy they would have left at the club beyond the showbiz glam. 4 years later, they were relegated to the old third division. I reckon Brian Moore was a bit sucked in by all the surface glam.
