The cleaner that I use for restoring vintage toilets has hydrochloric acid as an active ingredient, and indeed it does help rejuvenate the glaze to a bright shine. The 1962 Crane Oxford I fixed up a few months ago was left for dead and covered in the nastiest outdoor grime imaginable, but it made an excellent recovery.

That outdoor grime is sometimes even more difficult to remove than stains from water and neglect. I'm glad you rescued that old Crane because those are very good quality toilets.

These older Cadets are amazing - although the flush is a little slow on this particular one but it still did almost perfect on tests. Passed the washcloth and the grocery bag perfectly, passed them both together (although not perfectly - struggled a bit on first flush with these and really struggled on second flush but the weight of the water in the bowl pushed them through). Clogged on the dishtowel (first attempt) as balled up but the trapway is large enough to take it through as it actually passed perfectly when angled (second attempt). Siphoned on both dry bowl and clogged siphon jet tests. Almost perfectly passed the dirt test (clearance = perfect, bowl rinse = great but not perfect). This gets a 9/10 as I do love these Cadets (also the ones both elongated and round bowl versions I remember when I was a child visiting the US on vacation in hotel/motel rooms had the original tilt flush valves) 👍

I really do like these. The flush seems slow but it siphons before the flush valve closes which is always something I like to see. It seems to do fine on the tests though.
