1976 Carlton Vs Nth Melbourne Princes park Last 7 Minutes

Thank you very much for uploading this. I'm glad people get to see it. A big deal is made about the last kick, understandably, but media of the day couldn't recall a player kicking three goals in time-on of a last quarter before. That last mark and kick were awarded Mark of the Day and Goal of the Day on Channel 7, and Keith Greig appeared live on Football Inquest with Mike Williamson that night. And North Melbourne would go on to pip the minor premiers Carlton, again, in the Preliminary Final, by a point, with Blight saving the day again, this time on the last line of defence.

Neil Daniher in 1981 I'm pretty sure but that was after this.

Three difficult goals in the last few minutes in a low scoring match to win the game after the siren. What a champion.

You can't help but chuckle at how perfectly Blight kicked this ! Amazing. In 1988 I was working in the head office of Coles-Myer. In store 200 just below our offices they had a video monitor set up on which they were promoting the newly released, half hour, VFL highlight compilation called "Magic Moments", and I was always struck by the crowd that would be hypnotically fixed on the screen. There must have been a constant crowd of 30 people watching throughout the day! Having been lured in myself a few times I remember this scene would always prompt a lot of comments. Magic Moments indeed!!

Ahh the old Coles Myer head office on Bourke St... my sister used to work there as a secretary.. I also recall the big canteen upstairs I think on the 3rd floor?

I was at this match as a kid but I didnt see Blights goal. At the 25-26 minute mark we were 13 points behind and my father said we cant win lets leave now to beat the crowd out of the ground.

Bruce Doull...was about 25/26 y/o there and still looked about 50 y/o! Great to watch these old classic matches. 1976 was also the last year that Mike Williamson commentated.

Hat Hangers wow ! I didn’t know that but did wonder why he stopped! In fact I thought he had passed away in the 80s or 90s only to research him the other day and to my surprise he only passed away in 2019! And to think he was calling games in the 60s! Sad fact about him not calling was he had a better reading on the game than Lou or Landy as good as they were they missed a lot of the details that Williamson picked up on and his calling of the game was pretty much how it appeared through Alf potters camera , Lou and landy seemed a little pre-emptive with there call often calling the game from the point of who they though was going to mark it or get the hit out rather than call the game as it played out, not to mention I never realised that Lou and landy were a little flat at times often not building up to some spectacular bits of play that resulted in goals! I would love to get some of these games dubbed by either Rex hunt or some of the Mmm crew today! I really think it would help to make these classic games far more spectacular and really capture the great games we witnessed back then. I know I’m a little long winded here but thought I would add something to your comment about a really great commentator of many sports , Mike Williamson ! May he RIP and be remembered for the fantastic contribution to our worlds greatest sport.

You're a legend Gezza. I just got bounced back here after watching Mick Nolan on The Show with Sammy and then a tribute to him posted by North. I was a bit young for 70s footy but this era was brilliant for the footy as well as the personalities! Cheers mate

I remember one Sunday afternoon on Channel 7 when there was no footy and they did a show called Fantastic Finishes and Carlton were in most games (and lost virtually all of them)...this one (they lost the Prelim to North that year by 1 point) is the most amazing. Malcolm Blight could do what ever Ablett could do. And Mike Williamson was always the man for the moment. One of footy's greatest moments

Great days Gezza when every match was played simultaneously, after that it was off to the pub or watch the highlights/replays. After 3/4 time entry was free. After the game everyone could go onto the ground and kick a footy. OH&S wouldn't like that these days. Very happy days. And Malcolm Blight was a true champion, could kick as well with his left foot as his right. Just played footy and didn't get involved with collingwood style scragging type play.

Not just the last kick, Blight was a freak, he took a great mark in the pocket and did the old banana kick, or check side kick as SA crowds would say.

Carlton led by substantial margins in 2 matches 5 years apart against North Melbourne and Essendon and we're sunk by Malcolm Blight and Neale Daniher!😀
@darrenmiles-morland8038 Жыл бұрын
The same thing happened to Carlton at Princes Park in 1985. On that occasion they led by 16 points against North Melbourne at the 30 minute mark of the last quarter before being sunk by 2 quick goals to Ross Glendinning and a goal by David Dwyer just seconds before the siren. Absolute chokers.

@@pcorf You ask Woodville fans of the Blight Coached 1986 SANFL season and they'll say that was a pretty special season for a club that didn't have success to lose a close prelim after a soaring run to the finals in the second half of the season.
