@chriswatson79654 жыл бұрын
The Australian team did think it would become infamous, but it was Greg Chappell's decision. He was under a lot of pressure as captain, and made the decision with that in mind. He ended up losing the captaincy anyway, though technically he made himself unavailable for selection. Personally I didn't have a problem with it at the time, and wished for more underarm bowling in general play. I still do today and also regret the rule change that has banned lobbing the ball over the batsman onto the stumps.

I don't get it. Chappell was wrong here, no doubt, but he didn't seem to have any insight. Mills straight up stomped on Greengrass's head causing 18 stiches. Bacchus said nah, impossible, so Walters bet him $100 that he, Walters could do it, hit a six off a ball rolled along the ground. Not long after they agreed to meet at what was then known as North Sydney Number 2 oval to make the bet. So there they are on the pitch with three wickets and bails, Marsh at one end and Walters at the other. Marsh rolls the ball along the ground, Walters dashes down the wicket, out of his crease (no LBW possible) catches the ball with the tip of his shoe, the ball jumps up, Walters swings, and it's a big six. Walters wins the $100, he loved a bet, and a beer or ten. Legend.

Being an Australian this is one of the worst moments in Australian cricket such a disgraceful moment would be better just to lose

Something that should be not forgotten is Dennis Lillie not moving off his mark, meaning that delivery was no ball. Did he do this on purpose, maybe? Lillie was many things but stupid was not one of them.

Australia don’t deserve to ever live this down. I’ve not seen anything that goes more against the spirit of sport than this.

Was at this match. Such an exciting match then this. Completely agree with Ritchie. Greg Chappell never lived that down. Should never have told his brother to do it.

Lucky you. There to witness history. I wouldn't complain about that. Would love to have been there.

How is this over 40 years ago , I remember it like it was yesterday, the incredulity, the shame of it all still weighs heavy the moment the act is mentioned , like it was today with the incident at Lords.

BS. Absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of at Lord's. If anything the shame is Bairstow's for being so stupid.
