Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 6,871 original mile 1976 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L-82 4-speed Coupe!
The C3 generation of the Corvette was introduced in 1968 culminating in 1982 with an impressive 14-year production run of the most iconic American sports car. It was a radical design departure from the preceding 1963 to 1967 C2 generation being based on the '64 Mako Shark II concept designed by Larry Shinoda. The oil embargo years of mid-70's did not help the Corvette in performance and Chevrolet did their best to make up for it by offering a bit more power in the form of the L-82 engine option. Introduced in 1973 and offered through 1980, the optional L-82 engine was a hi-po version of the base L-48 350ci V8 that offered an additional 30hp to 60hp depending on the model year.
For 1976, Chevrolet produced 46,558 Corvettes, all coupes, and this example is 1 of 10,674 finished in Classic White as well as 1 of 3,256 with a Buckskin vinyl interior. Under the hood is the optional L-82 350ci V8 mated to a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission. Just 5,720 Corvettes featured this $481 optional engine in which just 2,088 of them were equipped with the Muncie M21 4-speed manual as it was only available with the L-82 engine option. Additional options include $151 power steering, $59 power brakes, $281 AM/FM Stereo, and $299 aluminum wheels for an original MSRP of $8,875.85.
We acquired this example from the previous owner of 21 years in December of 2021 and its earliest documented history dates to May of 2001 where it passed West Virginia state inspection. In November of 2001 it was acquired by a dealer in Warrendale, Pennsylvania and subsequently purchased by the previous owner in the same month with a reported 6,546 miles. At the time he was living in Oakville, Ontario, Canada for work and he proceeded to import it to Canada. In 2004 work moved him back to the U.S. stationed in Michigan in which he reimported it in August of 2004 to be temporarily registered at his address in Dearborn, Michigan. In 2005 he permanently relocated to Milford, Michigan. Work kept him preoccupied and he did not drive this Corvette very much as between his purchase in November 2001 at 6,546 miles to December of 2021 when we acquired it with 6,866 miles, he only drove it 320 miles over 21 years as it remained stored in his 4-car attached garage. In addition to this Corvette, we also acquired a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 4-speed coupe from him.
We feel based on the documentation and its overall highly original condition that mileage is true currently at 6,871 miles. In addition to the documentation from November of 2001 stating 6,546 miles, in August of 2006 a well-known Metro Detroit vintage car appraiser, John Jendza aka "Top Hat John" known for his large top hat, appraised the car and stated at that time the odometer showed 6,866 miles which means the car was not driven between August of 2006 and our acquisition in December of 2021. With it being in static storage for 16 years we enlisted Nostalgic Motoring in Auburn Hills, Michigan to go through the car front to back to ensure it be in a road ready salable state. That $7,104.79 receipt outlining the work performed can be found in the photo deck.
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a classic Corvette in an ultra-rare spec being equipped with the L-82 and 4-speed manual transmission along with a documented history over the past 21 years. It comes with two sets of keys, copy of the 2001 issued Pennsylvania title, copies of the 2001 purchase paperwork, copies of the importation documentation from Canada to the U.S., appraisal from 2006, the recent service records, and the original T-top bags.
