When you played that sad music as you walked up to the truck near the tree at the beginning of the video reminded me of those K9 rescuers coming to save a neglected dog. Instead of a dog, it was a neglected Chevy!

Great find Ben. I have two squares, one shorty one long bed. You didn't mention that one is a six foot bed, very desirable. Looks like originally a bare bones 6cyl, 3spd, no power brake truck. Loads of potential. The elevator has gone up quickly on squares, especially short wides, congratulations.

in the late 70's 80's my grandpa had an early c10 Custom Deluxe, much like this one, except tan with tan plaid vinyl seat and a white topper...250 i6 and 3 on the tree...no power steering. went everywhere, did everything. up here in the PNW back then cars/trucks tended not to rust out, so was pretty clean other than typical old guy parking lot rash. wish I had been around when it was put up for sale. have fun with this red one...hope the floors are ok

Got to be one of the luckiest dudes around!! Shows up with all sorts of C-3's and now a short wheel base square body in decent shape for its age!!

Judging from the brake swing pedal, looks like this was originally a straight 6 with a 3 speed on the column. Automatics had a larger brake pedal.

Pretty good that it wasn't all rusted out from just sitting there since the 90's. Great save Ben

Looks like the beginning of a great revival series. Funny how the basic spec and especially the SHORT bed would have made this truck the cheapest and least desirable when new, skip to present day and now it’s likely worth more than a high spec long bed Cheyenne or Silverado from the same year. Great find!

The longer I watched this, the more the truck reminds me of my first pickup. Red, 86’ custom deluxe 4️⃣✖️4️⃣ heavy half ton. Six lug wheels and quad front shocks factory. Original owner swapped 6cyl. for a 305. Cam, headers, duals, and a 600 Carter. Not a powerhouse, but it got the job done. I always wished they had just used a 350 instead of the 305. Why in hell not...? Right?

I once bought a Red 76 with the Saginaw 3-speed trans for $800. Drove it about a year before someone hit me and pushed the rear bumper down and tweaked the frame. His insurance company gave me $1.5k and let me keep it. Sold it a few weeks later for $800. Fair winds and following seas to all.

Not a bad base to start with. I’ve got a 78 Shortbox K10 I’ve had since I was 17. Did a fame off resto in 1999. Added EFI a few years later. It’s been stored the last 15 years, but those trucks are fun to work on.

Great score on the short bed, Ben! There's a lot of old cars just sitting idle right in my own neighborhood as well, though a couple I've been eyeing have already been snatched up by others, including a '65 Nova SS that sat in front of an abandoned house for years. I live in a major city too, seems like most old cars are found in rural areas but not always. In rural areas you have barn finds and field finds, sometimes in urban areas you have driveway, garage and side yard finds! 😁

All those square body hoods Chevys would kink at the hinges because they did not have much reinforcement and the hood springs were too strong. They used to sell reinforcement kits for them with weaker springs but a lot of people just got rid of the springs altogether and just use a prop. That's probably what the turned post was for.

Those gen Chev & GMC fullsize pickups & SUVs were produced from '73 - '91 except the half ton & three quarter ton plain cab pickups were finished in '87 & the one ton plain cab pickups were finished in '89. Like the one ton plain cab pickups, the medium duty series which are those bigger size trucks with the same cab design were also finished in '89. The medium duty series with the school bus bodies on the other hand were produced from '85 - '91 because buses with the previous '67 - '72 nose design on the front were still in production up through '84.
