Gotta love that infield... it's manicured like a cow pasture.

14:12 Petty and Donnie Allison are all at least one lap down; in a normal Talladega race they’d be leaders and the lead would be changing 50 or so times.

Back when stockcar drivers were balls to walls and foot to the floor drivers... no restrictor plates...just skill.

They’d run restrictor plates at Talladega in 1970-71 and 1973. The 1974 Daytona 500 notably was a restrictor plate race.

It should also be noted NASCAR went to smaller carburetors six races before this race.

@@STP43FAN1That was one damn race. Restrictor plates weren't mandator on super speedways until 1988.
@STP43FAN15 ай бұрын
Douglas restrictor plates were mandated for EVERY track starting at Michigan in August 1970. Both Daytona races ran restrictor plates in 1971; Talladega ran restrictor plates 1970-71. They switched to carburetor sleeves in September 1971 and ran them until reverting to restrictor plates at the Firecracker 400 in 1973. The Talladega 500 in 1973 and Daytona 500 in 1974 were restrictor plate races. So you’re flat wrong here

@@STP43FAN1First of all NASCAR is shit these days. The second thing is cars were faster before restrictor plates. You just keep posting bullshit lies. Once again NASCAR is shit compared to what it was from 1947 til early 2000s.

Wrong. Nobody who was capable of winning brought anything but their slickest cars. The draft pretty much neutralized horsepower

BTW they ran I think 380 carbs instead of 830s in this race
@crockett_lee66055 ай бұрын
@@STP43FAN1 i didn't say that there was no emphasis on aerodynamics. Horsepower took priority before NASCAR decided to make all cars more equal through fuel restrictions causing draft racing and in return causing aerodynamics to become more priority,especially on super speedways.
@STP43FAN15 ай бұрын
Crockett NASCAR didn’t create that, competition evolution did that. All NASCAR did was return restrictor plates in 1988; people who blame NASCAR for common templates ignore form following function beat them to that punch.
