So sad. Can't we appreciate that Nelli, Nadia, Lyudima, Olga and all were great gymnasts. No wonder we have wars. THe pressure on those poor girls - talented young ladies.

Nellie Kim's uneven bar routines vary greatly from one Olympics to the next. It may not have been her best event but its great that she wasn't hesitant to try new things.

The Soviets won their gold team medal and Nelli Kim won 2 individual gold medals but Nadia reigned as the supreme queen at these games and with 7 perfect 10s

In some respects, Nadia's performances was even more impressive when she was 13 at the1975 European championship, Nadia won the all-around, the beam, the vault, the parallel bars, and took 2nd in the floor, the only event she didn't win outright. In other words, she won 4 of the 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal. .

Go back to all commentary before the USSR's implosion, and 9 times out of 10, the USSR was called Russia. It was only after the break-up that the distinction between Russia & the USSR became a thing.

Nelly Kim did a great job in Montreal 76, but despite all its brilliance Nadia Comaneci overshadow achievement. and what made it special to Nadia in Montreal, is that simply was fourteen and was talented and smart. Instead Nelly had 19-

@I. Wynn Wynn Yes I agree. If they had been competing 10 years before it would n't have mattered that Nadia was younger but from 1972 gymnastics got much harder. And of course this meant technically Nadia was better.

Many inaccuracies are noted, it is true. The original documentary is in French and lasts 2 more minutes. I think that the English translation is responsible for almost all errors.

This documentary is more of the magnificence of Nadia than Nelli's. It should be the Nadia dicumentary on how she defeated the Soviets on their own game.

Agree! But you are right Olga and others could have been the one gunning for '76 medals not only Nadia & Nellie. But Nellie did show up and deserved the attention. Thus this documentary.

+Kevin Jewell @ 13:58 though, Nadia's supremely difficult BB that score a 10.0. Her BB routine made everyone else look like compulsories. A must deserved 10.0 like all of the UB optionals. Nadia did an front aerial(D rated today), a aerial cartwheel to a flip flop(D and connection), she back over to TWO very quick back hand springs. And a double full dismount. Nadia essentially did more difficulty on her BB routine than than all AA contenders combined.
@reginarobertkrystyn8 жыл бұрын
+Vette gaddia I haven't seen the aerial cartwheel to flip flop since Aurelia Dobre; and she added a layout stepout.

+Kevin Jewell Yeah, it was like the team optional, all-around and event finals all bled into each other and it didn't help that he couldn't keep ages and final standings correct. This happened before I was born but I've still known who won which medals in '76 :/

Nadia was not 13 at the olympics. She wast 14 and 8 months - born in Nov. 1961. And there is no comparison between Nadia and Nellie Kim. Nadia was the brightest star. By far.
@LETMEINGUYS8 жыл бұрын
On beam and bars. But clearly Nelli kicked her ass on floor and vault. Nadia was a horrible vaulter
@simozimo098 жыл бұрын
Nadia a horrible vaulter? She was the European vault champion en-titre in Montreal, ahead of Nellie Kim who got bronze. She won the continental title again in 1979, and she got silver in 1977. At the 1978 Worlds Nadia got silver :-D As for floor, Nadia got bronze at the 1976 Olympics, with a watered down routine because of her ankle problem. She became Olympic champion on floor in 1980 (tied with Nellie Kim who was competing at home, for the clearly over-scored soviet team) and European champion in 1979. She got silver in 1975 at the European championships. But what it's really sad, it's the bitterness and lack of fair play from Nellie Kim when talking about her rivalry with Nadia. She got her revenge later as a head judge in big competitions, by systematically under scoring the romanian team. She was even suspended for cheating and fixing scores in 1990 by FIG.
@yasminbarry79415 жыл бұрын
Can we just agree that Nadia is (I'll never be able to use the past talking about her) .....Nadia is simply much better on vault and floor than she is at the vault?

You are so envious. If somebody could thieve Nadia, a girl from Romania, in a gymnastics world dominated by Russia, they would make it! But she was so good and talented, and simply perfect on her routine, that nobody could make an objection. So, if corbut would make a half so good as Nadia did, she would become the gold, but she didn‘t. The ladies from Russia in the jury had tried it for sure. But not against the evidence: that Nadia was perfect!

Lawrence Alexander Lol oh I get what you mean when it comes to colors and designs; I think in the last 15+ years I've seen maybe 3 or 4 that I actually thought were pretty and attractive. Most of them look like they belong on a stage in Vegas. But what I was really referring to was the fabric they're made of. In my day (the Dark Ages) lycra hadn't been invented yet. They were made of a cheap, polyester knit that would sag and bag on you and look about as flattering as old-fashioned underwear. You might look at some footage of Olga Korbut to see what I mean. She was so tiny that they simply didn't have one small enough to fit her. She looked like she was dressed in a potato sack.

Yes - some of them nowadays look like they should have feathered headpieces! I liked back in the early 90s when they had some simple velvet ones. the one Moceanu had on when she won US Championships in 95 was pretty. And TBH - I liked the Romanian leos with the stripes down the side! Anyone remember leos with ric-rac? Anyone? lol
