A former cop told me this Carlo Gambino story. Gambino was in back of his car, riding on Ocean Avenue, in Brooklyn, when he was stopped by an officer, for speeding. His driver attempted to flex, letting the cop know who's in the back. Carlo tapped the driver on his shoulder; giving him a finger wag, telling him to shut it, and obey the officer. The cop directs Gambino and the driver to come with him to the station. Gambino's car follows the cop car to the precinct. Gambino walks into the station, and the entire precinct, along with the captain, yells, "Hey, Carlooooooo!" Gambino offers to pay the ticket. The captain waives Gambino and the ticket off! "Have a nice day, Carlo!" That told me the respect Gambino got, for keeping a low profile and not being a jerk, as a boss.....!

9:00 I know this is hard to comprehend, but my wife and I lived in a mob-controlled neighborhood in Brooklyn in the early 1980s (not Gambino's neighborhood, but another area). The truth of the matter is, the neighborhood WAS very safe and very nice, even for us, and we were not Italian. That's the case in places where mob guys live. They won't put up for two minutes with bullshit from the "undesirables" toward ANYONE living in the neighborhood.

They are not thuggish like usual criminal also. The reason is they for centuries.gave always mixed in and involved with the upper echoes of society. Middle class villains who actually survive due to an ability to mix with, infiltrate and blend into the background. Non thuggery in its blatant uncontrolled forms is a definite ate no no for a "man of honours" accepted rules of behavior. If he didn't he would be lucky dependent on circumstances.to be.let off with a severe dressing gown down off his superiors. They have strictly imposed, codes of conduct.

Fun fact: the guy at 2:00 looking around whose name was Frank Amato, was killed after his wife (which was Paul’s daughter) had a miscarriage because it was thought he was to blame for it after allegations from his wife he used to beat her. The job was given to Roy Demeo. They killed him in Roy’s club and chopped him up then sent to a land fill.

It's Brooklyn, NY 1976. Everything is great, if your an Italian American. And why is everything great ? Because La Cosa Nostra is employing everyone. They are supporting high level elected officials, and policing their neighborhoods. Most white folks have fled to the burbs, but Italians remain because the unemployment rate is zero, And the crime rate in Italian neighborhoods is also zero. How else would a bunch of poorly educated fools like these live such a nice life style? And why would they have such nice thing to say about Carlo, a high level criminal? Unless of course he was putting money in their pockets, and keeping the place safe. How I miss those days.

Not one member of his community had a bad word about him,and actually stated as a neighbor and citizen he was a good influence in his community.Ok no He was a criminal boss but that doesn't mean he didn't behave badly to the civilian community and you get the feeling he helped them if he could.Imm not surprised, why would he be nasty to innocents. On a cynical note you can't do what a man like that does without public tacit approval,if false he would be subject to countless compliant and to the law.Thats how it works, not just for criminals either but for humans in life who are part of the community.

18:15 Paul Castellano getting in the car. No doubt he was sad..... Carlo was his family and he married his sister. But you can't tell me that man won't thinking dollar signs while all that was going on. To go from captain to the head boss plus the income of running the commission is a sky-rocket pay raise.

@DgsTube46 These people who said he was a nice person etc are sick. How many people died because Carlo Gambino nodded his head? He rarely talked in meetings. I can't think of one piece of audio that even has his voice on it. Gambino ran an organization that killed and stole from people. He had leg breakers who maimed people. He's a nice person? lol Give me a break.

@@richardcoats6430 very true. So many ways it could of been brought about. Paul could've been in Carlos ear from the get go. Neil could of did something wrong in his final moments to make change. Who knows. My personal opinion is that Paul def wanted the job. People always say he wasn't a good gangster but there is no way he couldn't have paid his dues growing up. He just lost principles as he got older.
