Great job Fred! I turned 15 in December of 1976 and the entire year for me personally was one that kept me busy and out of trouble. I had a paper route,,was involved in Boy Scouts,Boys and Girls Club (where I learned to canoe and ski),babysat neighborhood kids and got interested in following the popular music of the day which was awesome. My record album collection will prove that point. I also kissed a girl for the first time and briefly had a girlfriend. As we are.big hockey fans here in Canada (Our Calgary Flames are 2nd. In the NHL overall standings!) the Montreal Canadiens swept the Philadelphia Flyers in four straight games in 1976. They clinched the Stanley Cup in Philadelphia and as the road team wore their red jerseys. Someone already indicated the pic you displayed was from 1993. 1976 was.a great year for memories and yes I did wear a blazer with the shirt lapels on top accessorized by a Hawaiian shell necklace. Showed a pic to my three adult children who proceeded to laugh themselves silly! Before I go Fred were you aware that Elvis was a candidate for the role that eventually went to Kris Kristofferson in the A Star is Born remake? Thanks again....

My mom saw Elvis in 77 during one of his last shows. We believe it was second or third to last, after researching. She was pregnant with me. So I kinda did get to an Elvis concert in a roundabout way. She said he was so desperately obese and could barely walk. Didn't turn around to the back of the stage where the rest of the crowd was...but the fact she was there counted for something.

I turned 11 that summer. Watched all those Sid & Marty Krofft Saturday morning kids shows. My favorite show was the Bionic Man (my brother got the action figure for Christmas). Remember those "Bicentennial Minute" commercials that told stories about the Revolutionary War. Used to listen to my Star Trek book & record set on my "Close 'N Play" record player. Had that famous poster of Farrah over the head of my bed. Our Dad's '69 340 Dart that he bought new was in the driveway, while across the street, our neighbors drove a custom Chevy or GMC van with bright orange paint, Cragar wheels, heart-shaped windows, and of course, the bean bag seat in the back. "Miss Charlene", as we kids all called the wife, gave several of us a ride to the local 7-11 one night and bought us Slurpees. Saw that movie "Gumball Rally" at the movie theater, and the Good Humor ice cream truck that came around our neighborhood sold packs of Gumball Rally bubblegum to tie in with the movie. Remember trucking songs & CB's were all the rage. At my birthday party, the kids next door gave me a drinking cup with a semi on the front and all the call signs from 10-1 to 10-100 on the back. Yeah, boy! The "good ol' days"!

Pretty much everything I wanted to say is in the posts. I was in Italy in 1975-76 for my junior year abroad so I don't remember much about about the first half of the year. I came back just in time for the Bicentennial, and that period in my life was a blur. A friend of mine, also in Italy, came back home for Christmas. He recorded some things on his cassette. "Love to Love You Baby," by Donna Summer. The first few episodes of Saturday Night Live, which I didn't have any idea that was about. Just one more thing. Your supposed "duds", which we haven't seen, could be a treasure trove of hidden gold. 76 I turned 12. Became know in Macon county N.C. as the "boy who lived in the jail", after 3 school teachers and the principle where arrested for abusing children. My 6th grade teacher stopped abusing us, but she was arrested too. So I stayed in jail with her to protect her. Had the sheriff call the White House and President Ford sent a jet for me. Hadn't seen my friends since I turned 9 in 72. 76 was another fun year growing up.

Oh yeah, I remember the disco years...had a t-shirt that said "Help Stamp Out Disco in Our Lifetime," with a broken mirror ball, so you might say I was rather militant about it. With the passage of time, I can now say that I can actually stand SOME of it now...Thanks Fred, from your old pal elc1960. (This is my real name.)

According to my memory, President Ford declared 2 PM the official time of our 200th birthday on July 4th. My sisters and I took turns ringing a "Liberty Bell" on our back porch when 2 o'clock came. I still have that bell.

I remember on July 4th my family was in my moms families state of Georgia staying with her relatives and we were watching fireworks on television while eating grilled hamburgers and drinking Coca Cola from glass bottles. I was also playing with my cousins and reading a Flintstones book to one of the younger cousins. I think Dino was missing and Fred and Barney were trying to find him.

Seattle Seahawks inaugural season was 1976.. Same as my Tampa Bay Buccaneers.. we even played the Seattle Seahawks at Tampa Stadium in October 1976.. of course we lost that game and every other game during the regular season, the only game that we won that entire year was a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons in Jacksonville at the Gator Bowl. We wouldn't win another game until December 11th 1977 when we played the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome and then a week later we close the season by beating the St Louis Cardinals at Tampa Stadium.. Before we drafted Doug Williams in 1978 and the rest as they say is history.

What, no photo of Walter Cronkite doing "and You Were There" segments? The Bicentennial Minutes. Loved those, really, but I began to hear that phrase in my sleep, and we didn't even watch TV that much.
