They tried sooo hard to make Munson equal to Johnny Bench and it was laughable. Munson was a good catcher but there will never be another JB.

I noticed they had Phil Rizzuto in the booth for the national broadcast. I don’t understand why modern MLB doesn’t do this. Invite one of the local announcers to be part of the broadcast team in their home stadium. Instead we’re stuck with Joe Buck every goddamn time for 20 years.
That was the formula every year on NBC World Series broadcasts- to have a home team broadcaster for each game. 1976 was the final year.

Probably the Reds, simply because Finley broke up his team in 1976…. Although, that 1972 WS loss to the A’s makes it an interesting debate…

@@GetBenched2010 It used to be back in the day until 1974, that for the odd numbered games, Curt Gowdy would call PBP for the 1st half of the game, and the local broadcaster would do PBP for the 2nd half. They couldn't get past the Dodgers in 77', whom the Yankees beat in 6, they weren't beating the Yankees in 77'. The reds lost to dynasty Orioles and A's teams, they had to LEARN how to win. Yankees learned how to win by losing World Series to Cincy. Then Reggie and Gator put them over the hump.
