My Uncle JC Wilson #21 played for Pitt as a Starter at DB. RIP to a great man
@kirkindog7 ай бұрын
I remember him. He used to play for my hometown Houston Oilers, aka, Tennessee Titans, during the "Luv Ya Blue" era featuring future HOF, Earl Campbell. He also played with 3 future HOFs on defense, Elvin Bethea, Curley Culp, & Robert Brazile. That was absolutely the BEST era of H-Town football. Only the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers kept them from reaching the SB, Sorry to read that about your uncle... RIP…🙏🏾

You can see by dorsetts neck that he’s been hitting the weights hard in his four years there. 155 as a freshman and at least 185 here. 192 as a pro.

And, before anybody asks, yes, the team with the gold helmets and white jerseys are indeed WVU. Those were the uniforms that they had before Nehlen took over the program and changed them to what we know them now.

Imagine today how #82 on WVU would be handled for that cheap shot on Dorsett . . . if he was still alive after the game
@SouthBaySteelers2 жыл бұрын
I was a student at Pitt sitting in the student section. When Dorsett ran out of the tunnel he ran towards the WVU bench. He raised his index finger - we’re #1 and there’s nothing you can do - then ran back to the Pitt bench. The WVU players were obviously pissed. Needless to say, Tony pretty much ruled as he usually did. But I’ve never seen anyone do that since.

A piece of useless interesting trivia. In 1963, Pitt beat West Virginia by 3 in a year where the Panthers only lost 1 game all year. In 1966, Pitt beat West Virginia by 3 in a year where that was the only game the Panthers won all year. So, if you were a freshman for Pitt in '63, you were on one of the best teams in the country (ended the season ranked #4), and in your senior year in '66, you were on one of the worst. If you were a Panther '63 to '66, you beat West Virginia 3 times in tough low scoring games, and then there was the crazy 1965 game that saw over 1,000 combined yards (a rarity, especially in the 60's) and a West Virginia 63-48 win where the great Garret Ford Sr scored 3 TD's, with 341 all-purpose yards. That game saw the Mountaineers jump out to an early 21-0 lead, saw the Panthers tie it up at 28-28 in the 3rd quarter, and later a 49-48 score in the 4rth before WVU put it away late for the 63-48 win.

Lol, anyone can pull their head back and flex and make their neck look way bigger. But yeah Tony was a physical specimen, a body doesnt move like that unless it's well put together.

Wow! What happened Pitt over the years?
@persona-non-grata3 жыл бұрын
After 76, they had incredible consecutive 11-1 teams with Dan Marino and Co. from 79 to 81, but choked in a game each year and were denied a championship each time (with arguably their best team ever in 1980). Jackie Sherill left for Texas A&M and Foge Fazio took over, then the team collapsed with him as a head coach in the mid 80's, followed by new University leadership which came in and mandated higher academic standards (which devastated recruiting). Pitt hasn't really recovered. They're still my team though. At least the great uniforms are back.
@jackprecip53892 жыл бұрын
@@persona-non-grata Well, the 1980 Pitt team did win the New York Times National Championship along with a handful of others, as back then, many media outlets decreed "national championships", not just AP and UPI. I wouldn't really call the 1980 loss at Florida St a "choke" either, as that FSU team was really good too, also loaded with future pro's (and former pro wrestler Ron Simmons), and playing in FSU's Doak Campbell Stadium on a Saturday night in front of 53,000 die-hard fans is a tough task, even for great teams. Also, worth noting that the week before the '80 FSU team beat Pitt, they had gone to Lincoln, Nebraska and beat the #3 ranked Cornhuskers (that was a tall order back then). Now, the 1981 Pitt team, when they were ranked #1 and lost the last game of the year at home by getting killed by Penn St in a game that Pitt played terribly in, now THAT was a choke.
