1977 Hoover S3005 Celebrity Air Ride Vacuum Cleaner

Roll out the red carpet, it's time for another Celebrity on my channel, the Hoover Celebrity Air Ride. This cleaner floats on a cushion of air like the Hoover Constellation, but with a more powerful 800 watt motor, this model sucks and floats better.

You’ve taken me on a trip down memory lane! I had one of those in that same colour in the early eighties, when we bought our first house. I can’t remember how I cleaned the stair carpet, probably left it at the bottom and went half way up and then carried it the rest of the way. Ooh! I remember that toggle switch! Funny how these little things bring us a frisson of pleasure! Nice video, thank you!

I had one of these in the dorms in college. I picked it up at a garage sale for next to nothing when the dust bunnies starting piling up. Word got around about someone having a vacuum (this being several years before Dyson-style portables came out), and it became so popular I charged for bags. :) Everyone that borrowed it loved it for its retro-cool design and the fact it worked great. I used it for at least 10 years after. Now I think i need another...

I had one of these, I bought it in the late 70s I loved it. I used to carry it up the stairs while vacuuming them as it wasn’t that heavy.

That's the second version of the S3005 in Goldtone over Antique Copper; the first, launched in 1974, was in Flamingo over Antique Copper Shadow. As for the year of production, Hoover Ltd. began coding the time of manufacture in its serial numbers in 1967 using 3 digits: one for the last digit of the year, and two for the month. They came after the model #, so '709' means September 1977.

My aunt had one of these and it cleaned up after 2 children ( one disabled ) and a huge golden retriever and a complete house rebuild and never missed a beat, she kept it until she bought the top of line turbopower total system autoflex in the cream colour

I had one exactly like that in the late 1970's that I got with Gold Bond Stamps. I sold it in the late 80's for $50.

Look for "Compass cutters" - Very similar to the compass we had at school but instead of a pencil it has a blade for cutting perfect circles

When you remove the suppressor, rather then solder the wires together for the bypass it will be safer to use a wago connector box. Like you said the cleaner is all metal so this will stop the solder joints from contacting anything, plus the solder joints will get very hot. Looking from the angle it looks like there is just one white and one black wire going to and from the suppressor. Take those two wires off the suppressor and connect them to a double wago box and you will be ready to go. It will also mean should the motor ever die it will be a faster job to replace it as you won't have to desolder anything.

I never solder the wires. They will be fitted with new connectors crimped onto the wire.

It stopped the cleaner from causing interference to radio and television signals.
