Replaced Fuel pump with an SU and rubber grommet.
Prior fuel pump was a universal type, so It left a hold in the trunk where the original pump was. Also, as there were no banjo bolts, there were a few extra parts needed to install
The SU fuel pump has a few vent ports. I found a great reference for the options in vent ports. Shout out to Dave DuBois.

Outstanding review of the SU fuel pump and installation. FYI: I noticed the your trunk seal is install 189 degrees off. the opening should be at the bottom nearest the trunk latch so as to prevent water intrusion at the top of the trunk.

Hi Alex, thanks for the video, was a great reference for fitting mine. A couple of things, it should definitely be fitted with the "top" caption top of the vertical plane. The two vents should be vented outside the trunk. The vent that is outside the trunk should have a tube that runs with the metal fuel line but then ends up going through a small grommet in the rear wheel well. The vent that is in the trunk actually exists the trunk through the grommet by the pump. Neither vent into the boot (trunk).

Great feedback. On this install, I was replacing a universal with an SU. So aside from online searching, and guess work I did not have much to go off of. I am truly thankful for the great community of MGB enthusiasts that are very helpful. It is in part why I am cataloging my restoration. So it may help others

Nice video. I agree with Mark the top goes up (bowler hat up) If you go with fiber washers the new Moss supply were too small on the ID I luckily had a metalworking deburr tool that allowed me to remove a couple thousands off of the washers. Keep the vids coming

Well, it says top Even a 60 year old jar head can follow those instructions. Been looking for an explanation on why that needs to be top. Curious I guess. Wonder the affect of not having it oriented correctly

@@AlexPlatacis Agree not easy to find. The Dave Braun site with late guru Dave Dubois articles states “for all pumps, it is desirable - to - essential to have the outlet above the inlet to avoid trapping vapor in the pump chamber” How did the copper washers work out?

I came on here because I’m rebuilding my 1974 MGB GT. Got same SU pump but due to difficulty fitting new hard line from the petrol tank, we ended up with the banjo bolts on the top. The pump delivers 1 litre of petrol into a jug in 50 secs. Anyway, car starts , runs for about 10 secs & dies indicating fuel delivery problem. Carbs have been stripped, cleaned & rebuilt with new seals by me (and KZbin!). Someone said maybe the problem is the pump is upside down? You said it probably doesn’t make any difference but is more convenient if the banjo bolts are at the bottom. Any suggestions?

@FiveToolDesigns no. On the advice of others I rotated it so the "boler hat" is on top. Oddly the pump also has a marking that says TOP. I missed that. I am also going to add an additional filter between the tank and pump. I will do a followup video when I get around to doing that. Thanks for the comment

Nice job, Alex. I take it that is the electronic SU pump as opposed to the points type? My 74 B has the fuel pump mounted behind the back wheel and not in the boot. Will that pump mount there OK?

I don't know. I had a hole, so I filled it. Just ordered what was appropriate for the model I had. I was going to replace the existing anyway, just because I replaced all rubber parts

Great video Alex as it will be helpful when I do mine in my 72 MGB! My inlet fuel pump line from the the tank to the pump is a hard metal line with a flared connection and nut on it while my outlet fuel pump line from the pump to the engine is just a straight line like yours. I decided to use a similar banjo bolt set up, but with a threaded connection Moss part 378-120 to mate with the flared connection on the fuel pump inlet connection and Moss part 376-540 that has already has the fuel line connected to the banjo bolt on the fuel pump outlet connection. Seems like there are a few different ways to connect the pump based on what fuel lines are in the car. Hoping that the connections work when I put power to the pump! Loved the metal fabrication part of the video! Question.....did you go with the copper washers or fiber washers on the banjo bolts for the final fit up and were the connections leak proof? Thanks again for a great video!

Yeah, thanks. There are a number of ways these are installed. I went with the copper washers. I was able to source those locally. The fiber ones I had were not the correct size. I don't know if it leaks yet, I still have not finished the other end of the fuel system. I will do a video on the first start when I get there. Thanks for the feedback

WD40 is not a lubricant-never was and it is not compatible with rubber. WD is short hand for water dispersant which is what it is designed to do!
