That's exactly what I had. I bought it brand new in 77 on friday the 13th. Rode it to Florida from central Ky.

Like it!!! My second sporty was a 1977 and new black paint,drag pipes,2 seats and a few extras, fresh top end and ran great!!! Back in 1982!!!! I worked in Western Oklahoma oil fields and only had time for short rides !!!

Cool video, it really brought back some memories. My first Harley was a 77 Sportster XLCH, Same color and everything. I bought it new when I was 17 years old, gave $2,500 for it. I rode it for 14 years, and rebuilt the top end on it 3 times. I loved that old bike. I've rode and restored, Triumphs and Harley's my whole life. You NEVER forget your first one.

Nice bike - you'all take care when you go for a rip out on those damp wet-leaf covered roads..... I was doing the self same thing on mySporty (2006 Hotrod XL1200 R) this Tuesday when the back wheel stepped out and I slipped down a gulley ! Bike's got some superficial damage and probably already have the parts to fix it but first my busted leg needs to heel ! Take care out there folks or the bogey man'll get ya !

Hi J, I recently just purchased a 1977 Harley Davidson Sportster. Right off the bat just let me say I know absolutely nothing about motorcycles! I have just been in love with Harley's since I was a kid. However being a NYC kid it just was never in the cards for me to learn how to ride or own one. I am 57 years old now and just happen to meet a guy who was retiring and wanted to let it go. He was honest and let me know it did need some work. New battery plus the handle bars need to be tightened down. Everyone I know tells me I should not have bought it but I don't care! I have yet to ride it and intend to take my time getting her up and running and properly restored again. I guess I am just reaching out to ask if you have any advise on this process. I am also not quite sure how to determine which Sportster I have. Do you know how I can quickly determine this? Please advise. Thank you. Please keep posting more videos.
@jfrost77hd Жыл бұрын
Hey Charles, congrats on getting your first bike I like the 77 Ironheads. If the vin starts with 3A it's an XLH if it starts with 4A it's an XLCH. I'd start with changing the fluids, cleaning the carburetor, seeing how the inside of the gas tank looks and get a battery. When you first crank it over I'd keep one of the battery terminals easily removable as the starters solenoids sometimes stick after sitting along time. It will probably pull some oil from the right side cam cover vent tube and that's pretty typical after sitting for years to. Ride it around and double check fluids. Best of luck to you!

Are those handlebars the correct factory original bars for this bike? If not, and you might sell them, I would be interested to put those on my 07 XL883C. That's a super nice bike, thanks for sharing this video. Looking forward to your next video.
