I've always believed he should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Especially, since Jay was from Cleveland, the location of the R&RHOF. He was a pain in the butt but he was an innovator. Alice Cooper has often credited Jay as the inspiration for Alice's (and subsequent musicians) use of props and pyrotechnics. Jay was the leader.

@@MisterMikeTexas, Jay played many instruments and was completely self-taught. He also loved (and was able) to sing opera. Although he was a complete pain-in-the-ass (I managed him twice which is, as I like to say, was three times too many), he deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The HOF is in Cleveland and that was Jay's hometown which makes his exclusion even more egregious. He was a pioneer. Alice Cooper gives credit to Jay for being the first to use pyrotechnics and props in his performances, which Alice simply took to a higher level. Now, most rock/music acts follow suit.

+Gambinoafrofunkrock In my opinion, he should have been placed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame over a 20 years ago. He pioneered pyrotechnics and more. Alice Cooper credits Jay for inspiring him to use props and such. Now most everybody does. Having one of the first (if not THE first) rock record ever banned from radio ("I Put A Spell On You") which has been covered hundreds of times or more by other artists and was, most recently, used as the opening song on the film "Fifty Shades of Gray," show in just that one accidental piece of music history, that he is worthy of enshrinement. Few people knew just how talented as a multi-instrument-playing and truly gifted vocalist he was. As his manager and producer, taking him into the studio to do things that people did not think he could do, was a pleasure. Dealing with his mishagos was extremely challenging. LOL. I like to say I managed him twice....which was three times too many. He put this 20 something through the ringer. But, he is someone you could not help but root for in the long run. He was a charmer. I guess that accounts how he ended up with 56 (52? 57?) accredited children. Hard to believe that this gig was so long ago. The funny thing was that, after this gig (packed house), the agent and I had to jump in our car and chase the car of the owner back to his apartment to bring him back to the club to pay Jay and his band. It was like the chase scene from "The French Connection."

I GOT A GIG , DOING BACKING VOCALS WITH SCREAMIN' JAY....It was quite an experience. He told great stories and jokes , and he did try to encourage the band , saying that they could DO this , tho' we had minimal practice time. I was'nt asked to do the same , when he came back through , but , every time I met him , he was very cool. It was my idea to book him in the first place , and the owner and booking agent were VERY pleased.
