This is my 1977 Sears 10/6 Plowing and Tilling a friend's garden. It is what I am using until my 1968 Sears Suburban is ready to go (I hope by the end of July). This old tractor is a real workhorse - and it is only a 10 hp! I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed doing it.

I've got a '77 that was given to me last year by my 92-year-old neighbor. She'd sat since 1980 in his garage; never moved in all that time. Sat through 2 floods also. When I drained the crankcase for the first time, she ran water for a full 30 seconds before I got any oil out. But it wasn't locked up. A new starter, freshly rebuilt carb, and upgraded the points and condenser to a Magnatron type armature. I had to use the Wheel Horse to turn her over at first until the starter arrived. She runs great, though with the occasional miss and accompanying puff of white smoke. I really had no idea this little tractor had that kind of power. That gear case is a beast. As soon as I get the chains from him, maybe I'll try pushing a little snow this year.

just bought the 77 today for $50 with snowblower! somebody gave it a sloppy green paint job with a brush over the yellow paint, but, other than that, I had to wash out the gas tank of its varnish and replace the carb with my 70 carb, as well, rewired the entire unit. It runs like brand new! Every part other than the wiring, the key switch and solenoid are original, minus the nasty 70's green paint somebody slopped over the original sears yellow! oh, mower blades are new!

Thanks, beans80s! I love my Sears 10/6 - it has done everything I have asked it to do... I hope to post some video of it pushing snow sometime...

Thanks for the comment. I have a brand new short block in it - the old one ran good, just smoked a lot. May rebuild it and have it as a backup. I love working with this old tractor and cannot wait to get my suburban running.

Very nice. I really reallly want to build a 3pt hitch. Not sure how to go about it though. Just shows you dont needs tractors with ton and tons of power. 30hp v twins, eat your hearts out! Thanks for sharing!

"Gardeningpreacher" and that little Sears work beautifully together! My Dad has my late grandfather's Sears 10/6. Unknown to us, the aluminum engine's side cover developed stress cracks in the area of the synchro-balance weights and, suddenly one day, all 'you-know-what' broke loose. We're looking for an identical engine to restore the tractor. To everyone who owns and wants to preserve one of these aluminum engines, I suggest periodic teardowns and very close inspections.

If you have to hold down a plow, you've got it set wrong.

My Custom 10XL has a deck and I plan on using it to mow with - I have mowed my front yard so far, it did great! The three point hitch is not the right one, it is for a suburban - I intend using my 10/6 for snow removal and other work and my 68 suburban for plowing, etc.

I have the exact machine, even have the field plow! I also have the 1970 ss12. I think my 77 is the 12 as well, I can't tell because it doesn't say. The 70 is the 12 but the engine just stb. Anyway, yours is running great and looking better than most new tractors. Its built great, just the way Wheelhorse used to make them, except for the fact that Sears engineered them so you had to take everything apart before you could get to any of the parts you really need to fix. Still a great tractor, mine doesn't owe myself or anybody else anything. My grandfather bought it in 1970 and was used all the time for 44 years, had the rings changed 20 years ago, and ran great for another 20. Unfortunately, it just grenaded today. Not bad for something that was hauling over 1200 lbs of firewood and beaten to all hell for 44 years..

Older ones yes, newer ones, no. That goes with all the brand name tractors as well to. Back then they were built with quility and endurance. Today, these zero turn radius machines are nothing but an accident waiting to happen, don't like em, don't trust em.

Hey Preacher,I love your videos. I have a Super 12. I thought I heard you say you were in North Carolina. I'm in Gastonia. How hard was the motor swap to a Predator 13?
@gardeningpreacher
@gardeningpreacher 7 жыл бұрын
Not hard at all. The diesel engine in my 14/6 was the most challenging (because of the height)... We are in the mountains of western NC...

Ok. I may have to swap mine one day when it gives up the ghost. I own a few acres between Marion and Chimney Rock that I visit on weekends. I use my tractor for a variety of chores up there. I love the NC mountains more than any other part of the state. There is a guy in Forest City that has all kinds of parts for Suburbans. If needed I can give you his number.

The 3 point hitch handle I am using on my 10/6 does not fit properly - in fact I dented up my fender with it. The one on for the 10/6, 12/6. 14/6, etc are shaped a little differently. My 10/6 does good plowing, but with the chains, it does better in the snow and ice.
