I've got a 1980 kawasaki drifter 440. Mine doesnt have the electric start so my wiring is probably different than yours but its a pretty simple system to work on. Like the other guy said, i would sand the points. if that doesnt help, id look at bypassing the kill switch. temporarily wiring it to the run position then if that fixes it putting just a standard two position switch. I bought my 1980 last year cuz it had a knock in the top end. Brought it home and pulled the cylinder tops off and the bottom of the spark plug had snapped off and fell on top of the piston. So it was smacking the cylinder head. So i pulled out the small piece of metal, pulled it twice and it started right up, knock gone and 150 dollar sled runs perfect. Its no speed demon by any stretch of the imagination but its full to keep these old sleds alive.
