1978 Gottlieb DRAGON pinball machine

Here's a 1978 Gottlieb Dragon pinball machine for your viewing pleasure. This game is not to be confused with Interflip's Dragon that was released by the Spanish company around the same time. This machine is the solid state version but this game was also released in the electromechanical flavour in very low numbers.
Dragon is a typically simple game from the early solid-state era. Spot the A-B-C-D lanes to increase the bonus multiplier. Hit the vari-targets for 1k, 2k, or 3k points. Hitting the vari-target for 3k points also lights the spinner for 1k points (rather than 100 points otherwise). The special and extra ball lights, unusually, light at various bonus levels rather than for completing certain objectives, so they're more of a random award.
This game is an attractive machine with very Gotttlieb-esque Gordon Morison artwork. Gameplay is so-so. Vari-targets are a neat idea but not nearly as satisfying to hit as, say, spinners and drop targets. Still, the game flows pretty well.

I love vari-targets .. (..don't see them used much in modern pball tbl's.. I prefer the older tables anyway (65 to 80's) )

Every afternoon we played Dragon PB at the local quik mart. The machine we played had a habit of catching the ball if it went slow up or down the right lane to the top. The ball would get stuck on one of the rollovers. A slight bump and the rollover would trigger. Bumped us so many free games. Our scores were in the 900,00+ when they pulled the machine. Was hoping to roll it over and see what happens.
