I'm generally not a big fan of those "music was so much better back then" comments, but it's hard not to feel a little wistful when you consider the caliber of the artists nominated in that 1978 Pop Female Vocal category, and the level of songwriting skill involved.

I've been saying it over 20 years that the music of the 70s in every genre was so much better than most anything recently released. Rock, funk, soul, R&B, pop, country were all better and still just as great today.

The 60s & 70s were indisputably the high point for pop music, particularly when you consider the highly accomplished and intelligent work of singer-songwriters like Paul Simon, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Janis Ian, Carly Simon, etc. There is nothing remotely comparable today. Taylor Swift? Cue hysterical laughter.

Thank you so much, Anne, for this wonderful video. I have sheet music of "Evergreen" at home. I have played it on the piano several times, and realized that the chords are fantastic --- it almost seems like every bar carries a surprise and lovely accidentals. For me, Barbra Streisand is, literally, equivalent to Michelangelo or Da Vinci.

That is a captioning is done by stenographers and doesn't even bother me, but the mispronunciation of StreiZIN or StreiZAND is what drives me (and I KNOW Barbra) nuts. StreiSAND people, like SAND on a beach! Even her so called friends will STILL say it wrong, which just proves how phony the industry is.
