That's great! I started my first build at 22 or so. Never did one before but just got a bike and started building. Lots of help online on youtube and forums. As far as tips, I would start with a model that is very popular and has every part needed, for example the 70's honda cb models. They have every part you would need and tons of people willing to help online and answers for everything.

I'm 15 building a kz400 right now, I would not reccomend a kz400 as the online support is sufficient enough to solve your problems, but the aftermarket is very limited in what you can do, you would have to to a lot of fabrication
