When you were contemplating the parking brake, I was thinking to myself that due to the difficulty of access for that assembly I would at minimum clean and regrease all the pivot points. I don't think you broke the shoe I think age did. I am guessing those can jam inside the rotor if the pad comes loose just like the european cars. As far as I know that is the only GM product in that time period to use that type parking brake mechanism. Also you are correct that we could watch someone else, but I choose to watch you do it!

Yes only a handful of American cars used rear disc brakes in the 1970s - Corvette being one of them. I think Corvette offered rear discs as early as 1963. I finally noticed that broken brake shoe after I got it over to the bench. lol
