I remember watching the 1977-78 Canadiens and just being amazing at their individual talent AND team play. They only lost 10 games that year. Lafleur, Steve Shutt, Rejean Houle, Robinson , Yvan Cournoyer...even as a loyal LA Kings fan these guys were hockey gods to me. Rest in Peace, Flower.

sad how the legacy of great French Canadian players who played for Montreal essentially ended with Mr. Lafleur--Rocket Richard passing the torch to Jean Beliveau who then passed it to Mr. Lafleur--Mario Lemieux would have been next but he made it very clear when he was about to be drafted he would not play in Montreal-so other than Patrick Roy (whose career in Montreal came to an ignominious end) there really hasn't been anyone else who followed Mr. Lafleur

RIP Guy Lafleur. My god you were a great hockey player. Like all the greats, what you could do with the puck while skating at that speed. Amazing shot. I love these old clips. What really strikes me is as you are watching the play (with no ads on the boards), the amount of white ice visible and the plays and shots that are made. When was the last time in today's nhl you saw a player go down the right side, wind up and blast it into the net? Doesn't happen- no room or it just gets deflected. Yes all sports "evolve". Players are bigger, stronger, and faster. To think that today's players are playing on the same size ice surface - and its terrible to watch. No playmaking to great goals like shown here. Guys are banging into each other, bashing into the goalie's, and in order to score goals, the game sometime's literally has to be played at a sideways angle. Its sad. And sad about both Mike Bossy and Guy Lafleur. You were a class act Guy Lafleur, both on and off the ice.

He is often mentioned as the main reason why Montreal upset Boston in the 1971 playoffs which was his rookie year, but the reality is he allowed 26 goals in the seven game series. @@robertsohm4521 the ruins also traded Montreal Dryden for 2 guys who never made the NHL. Is that the worst trade in NHL history or what? Lol Boston traded them the key to a dynasty and didn't even get a bag of used pucks in return.
