1979 BMW 633CSi E24 Coupe Review and Test Drive by Bill - Auto Europa Naples

Offered for sale is this beautiful and very low mileage example of the increasingly collectible E24 Coupe from BMW, a 1979 633CSi in attractive Ruby Red Metallic over Black leather. This miraculously well maintained car is in excellent original condition from front to back, and has remarkably little wear for the vintage. Power comes from an M30 Inline 6 engine coupled to a ZF 3-speed automatic. This generation is a nice combination of modern and vintage, with important safety features and classic appointments. It runs and drives very well, and is gorgeous to look at. Low miles and freshly serviced.

I had an 81 633CSi with a shaved and ported cylinder head, and enlarged/port matched runners on the intake/exhaust manifolds and it DEFINITELY had more than 200p HO. With the 5-speed manual and the short ratio sport gears it really got up and moved.

As a current shark owner I like the rare Ruby Red on this example. The hood light probably worked fine - you have to have the headlights on for it to turn on!

Glad I watched this video. Not only a COOL car but I got to hear you had a 1979 Firebird Formula! Did every kid that grew up in the 80s have a 1979 Firebird? BTW I had a gold 1979 Firebird which I wish I never sold as it almost never broke down on me. I ended up trading it in on a 1978 Buick Regal Turbo, basically the Grand National predecessor. While that car was fun at first it eventually died a horrible death due to the Turbo being WAY ahead it's time and hence unreliable.

as similar as the gauges are, it is still really weird to me that the tachometer is smaller than the speedometer in this car. later e24s had the more modern style gauge layout

It’s because this is an automatic car. BMW was aiming for a pure sport GT where the engine speed was not primary for this car in auto set up.

Yes it is. The E24 sure looks like a coupe version of the E23, but they're more different than they seem. I do love these E24s, but the E23 7 is just the best.
