This is Johan's first year in NASL, playing for the LA Azetecs. He was 32 at the time and still an incredible player.

Discrepo con su opinión. Cruiff debe ser el séptimo mejor jugador de todos los tiempos.

Cruyff also played a game against PSG in 1977: Paris Saint Germain 1-1 FC Barcelone 1977 (Tokoto, Cruyff)

Cruijff told this story about how every player had to come off the pitch after 10 minutes. He asked why. They told him for tv commercials. He only found out during the game, they hadn't told him beforehand LOL Every 10 minutes everybody had to come off and they'd have a 2 minute commercial break. Only in America.

Why didn't he play the world cup in Argentina ?? I think if he did, Nederland would be the champion.
@hamishmcqueen64708 жыл бұрын
There were threats of kidnapping his family if he went & also I remember he didn't approve of the political situation of a military junta/dictatorship in Argentina where many people were being "disappeared"by right wing paramilitary groups.Cruyff was well aware that the World cup would be used as a propaganda pretense for national unity..Cruyff was a very intelligent man as well as a supreme footballer..

was a story about the brand he is using in his contract and that was puma, or a sport outfit with two stripes instead of three (adidas)....wich was the promotor of the dutch team...kinda business argument that went so high..as a sportman you can make money only for a short period...so if you cant have a good contract etc etc..he was a business man first than the sportman...he was right ..

Wim van hanegem didn’t go to Argentina either, Rensenbrink and Neeskens had to take charge and they both played brilliant shame they lost the final it was probly better they lost or the Dutch squad would have gone “Missing” with everything else that was gong on there in that time .

His family got kidnapped and he had to pay a large amount of money to buy his family free. He payed and from that moment he was scared and affraid to go. He decided to stay close to his family and didn't let them go out of sight.

Tavy@ so overated. Or was there two johan cruyffs in the 1970s becouse this is guff. People at my age and iam 47 find it hard to believe that cruyff was a year older than george best. Becouse georges 1960s stuff was so good then when ye see cruyff in the 1960s he doesnt even come any where near best's talent. Not a chance. If you watch the whole game against benfica when george tore them apart at only 20 year old if he didnt get injured then a believe best wouldv won the european cup that year. But when you watch the full 1968 final at wembley and what they did to george to try and stop them and what he did to them dribbling and just making them look so easy as if he was playing on a street corner it was hard to believe that it was the european cup final lol then at extra time georges goal was genius. How he got the ball then put it through the players legs then he was one on one with the keeper and most players wouldnt have dared to go round the keeper at that stage, but george had total self believe he was doing it and scoring. With hes socks down and getting wacked and booted at every turn. It was a message 'come on then a dont need shin pads, there for fairys. Now take this bang goal. From 1966 to 1972 george was just unstoppable. No player could stop that man in form. He was in a class of hes own. And the bravest player i have ever seen. Remember those diving headers he would go in for and score with boots in every where at 4ft high. A thought yes he must be a bit mad too lol to go for a ball like that and score. I laughed at the way every defender would just look back at him as if to say 'what a goal'

Mate, if you're 47, you wouldn't have seen Best play during his actual playing career at Man Utd, as you'd have been born 1973 or 1974 & Best was finished as an elite player at 26 around 1972. You must be getting your tales of Best from your dad. I watched both Best & Cruyff during their actual playing careers & Cruyff was better. The greatest European player I've seen to date! He controlled matches from anywhere on the pitch from start to finish. Witness his gargantuan 1974 world cup plays as evidence. Best played in moments, when he could be electrifying, but Charlton was Man Utd's playmaker elect, during Best tenure at the club. Cruyff, could dribble, pass, shoot, head, tackle, score goals, as well as Best & was equally brilliantly, ambidextrous of feet as Best & just as fast running with the ball, perhaps even faster. There's also, this myth on mostly the British shores, that Best was a better dribbler. Cruyff was equally as good. I've got footage of Cruyff dribbling two-three players, like a whippet with his left foot. Never once touching the ball with his leading right foot! But Cruyff had a great panromamic view of how the team should play & marshalled the team to such a vision. No chance Best did that. Best played " off the cuff ". Said it himself, that Busby gave him no tactics. Just go out & enjoy your football. Neither did Best control matches from everywhere on the pitch like Cruyff. Best was finished at 26 for heaven's sake. He was only one year older than Cruyff. You think Best football from 1973 to 1979 was equally as or better than Cruyff's football from that exact time frame. 1973 to 1979? Cruyff was winning European Cups. Numerous ballon d'Or awards. Driving Holland to a world cup final for first time & in the process. Putting in the most dazzling, single world cup tournament performances, every seen to date from a European player. He then went to a second from bottom of the Spanish league Barcelona & galvanised them. Drove them up the table, to be League Champions. While Cruyff was doing all of this. Best was turning out for Northampton, Fulham, San José. Big, big, difference buddy. One player fulfilled all his potential, with nuclear staying power, all the way through his career up to 37 years old when at that age. He led Feynoord to the Dutch league title, while Best never fulfilled all his potential & his career had no staying power. Nevertheless, i rank Best in my all time top three European players, along with Cruyff & another master controller of matches. Kaiser Beckenbauer. Cruyff belongs in that elite, all time top five, rarefied air, on Mount Olympus, where only Pelé, Di Stéfano, Messi, Maradona, can breathe.
