hi, I have the same motor. I can't remove the propeller. I pulled out the pin and it doesn't move any further.

So what does one do whe the driveshaft comes out of the gear side and stays in the motor and wont come out ?

Nice video. I just bought a 1985 Johnson 2Hp. But I discovered that there is a bit of oil leaking out of a small hole on the lower unit, left side. Do you think the oil is leaking through somewhere?

That oil could be unburnt 2 stroke oil and that's normal for a 2 stroke. As long as their is no water in the lower unit it's fine.

Oil leaking out of that tiny hole is not normal nor fine. The engine is either running too rich or running too cool. Or a combination of both.

I have a 3HP 1968 Johnson, after taking out the bolts for the lower gear I should just be able to pull it out right? To put it back in I just wiggle it to align the gears? Mine also has no neutral or reverse just forward.

Hey Joe I have the same model and when i ran it in the barrel it looked like there was water coming out of the exhaust holes so i thought it was cooling. When i took it out on the water, i thought it was overheating because i would make a longer run with it and it would die. I would leave it for like 15mins and then it would start back up but if I ran it longer than it wouldnt run well. any thoughts?

What you could do is see if the water comming out of the exhaust warm. Of it is it cooling but might need a new thermostat. You have to look it up but I'm not sure if it has a thermostat but if it does it could be that. Also you can take off the the head and engine covers and see if their is a block in the water passages inside the engine. Also get a infrared thermometer and look up the temperature the engine should run at and take the temperature of the head and cylinder and see if it is at running temp.

What kind of gear oil did you use in this?

I use Lukas heavy duty 80w oil. You can get it about anywhere and it's for differentials and gear boxes. You can use marine gear oil but Lukas is the same thing
