Not stated in the description but this is an amazing and very poignant 'last look' at Larry Csonka before his retirement. He had a very good game. His longest rush of the night came in the 4th qtr and simultaneously put him over 8,000 yards rushing in his career -- only the 6th player to do so in NFL history. I'm glad the MNF announcers and crew made sure everybody knew it. Never seen this footage before and I absolutely loved it. Way to go, Retro Maven. ;)

Love the fun facts. Being 53, I obviously was a kid through the 70s into the 80s...I watched all these games live, begging dad to stay up just a bit more. Doesn't these old MNF ( and Thursday) broadcasts just reek of excitement? It seemed like everything was on the line every week...lol. better days, for sure. Hearing Gifford voice come on just takes me back...

I am a year younger than you...ANd I hear you LOUD AND CLEAR....and living in Miami, you could see the glow of lights in the sky coming from the orange bowl. Excitement is the exact word!! Games now feel like a golf match mixed with a game show.

Don Strock was such a solid dependable backup. Vern Den Herder one of the best names in football. Another great one is playing in this game too...Uwe von Schamann. Strock had his work cut out for him New England had a seriously powerful D in 1979.

I finally decided to do a full length game video for those that kept requesting one. I much prefer the shorter video format, but if this video can gather 200 LIKES then I will have evidence that many of you want these, and I will produce more of the longer videos featuring material new to KZbin. As they say, the ball is now in your court 🏈

I had forgotten about Tarkenton doing those games. The Thursday nights were extras. IIRC, ABC did 4 a year.

The course of my life changed that very night. And sadly, not for the better. That was the night I randomly, accidentally laid eyes on a girl who lived on the floor below me in my college dorm. My brain ceased to function correctly after that.

Thank you Chris. This game is very special to me as it was the personal copy of my good friend former NE Patriots Dr. Bill Lenkaitis who left us way too soon. This game is now on several YT channels but only here do you get many fun factoids about these 2 teams and the game. It's nice to when I got appreciative comments like this for my efforts!

Not in the 1970s for sure! Winning the '85 AFC Champ Game and the last NFL game ever played in the Orange Bowl in '86 helped ease the pain a bit...

@@retromaven2159 I was just kidding, the pats beat the dolphins 31-14 in the afc champion game in 1985 and the next year in the final game of the 1986 season on monday night, eason separated his shoulder and grogan threw a 40 yard tochdown to stanley morgan with 44 seconds left, when marino got the ball back on first down interception by rod mcswain. we had a bye week then denver beat up in the divisional round 22-17, eason got sacked in the end zone after fryar tried to field the punt on the 1 and got ran out on the 9.
