The late 70s early 80s full size Bonnies are not a common site these days anywhere including the junkyard. It seems as though I run across much more in the Chevy Caprice and Oldsmobile Delta models than the ponchos. But here one was in the yard, a 1979 Pontiac Bonneville in the more door variety. Not much was wrong with this one other than the bent hood and damaged grill. The back bumper and tail lights were missing as well but otherwise a decent looking car that could havw had more life in it. There wasn't anything i needed of it but i figured I would get a quick video or someone would see it in the background pf another video and ask.

Whoa Nelley, 1979 and used to be fine. Yes, I would have an issue with you not making a video of this. Rough, rough, rough, rough. My parents had two of these. The first was a Platinum (like this one) 1978 Brougham four door with a 301 V8 four barrel and we sold that in 1980 to my dad's coworker. It was replaced with a 1980 Brougham coupe with a 265 V8 that was stolen in 1982. I'd probably still have that Bonneville today if it was still around. Around 1979, the hubcaps (wire wheel covers) on the 1978 were stolen out of a Manhattan parking garage and my dad wound up using those same hubcaps as shown on this car. They were "Fugalay Ugitay" to use your term. We got the VIN, we win: 2 for Pontiac, N for Bonneville, 69 for four door sedan, W for 4.9L (301 CID) V8 with four barrel, Pontiac produced, aka RPO code "L37", aka "The Rodney Dangerfield" of Pontiac V8s, 9 for 1979 model year, P for Pontiac, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Pontiac, MI plant was the Pontiac "home" plant and closed in 1988 after the last of the G body RWD cars and Fieros were assembled. The 301 V8 is a very misunderstood engine with many of its "problems" being the "mechanics" that attempt to "fix" them. It was an economy engine and when driven reasonably, they run, run, run, run, run, run, run and run some more. They have better economy and oil control than any Chevrolet V8 and they are a smoother running engine. Parkway Pontiac existed through at least the 1980s, as I found evidence of another car in the 1980s with that same dealer placard. No tag, can't brag, but can be figured out, no doubt: ST79 for 1979 model year, 2BN69 for Pontiac (2) Bonneville (BN) four door sedan (69), PON or P for Pontiac, MI assembly, 74V for Carmine vinyl interior trim, 15L and 15U for Platinum lower and upper exterior paint, A52 for front bench seat, among other codes. Whoa Nelley, 301 and this one is done. L37 and soon to go to Heaven. The crash made it trash. That's it, time to quit. Poncho needs a new honcho. Quadrajet was a sure bet. Division 2 is soon to be over for you. Going to be flat and that's that. 4.9 and outta time. Please don't get squished, because all of the "B" body faithful, many here, maybe Benny and yup, the Google Man are all going to be pissed.

I bought a maroon one with maroon cloth interior in 92 and it was like new, i loved it and it would fly with the big Pontiac 400 someone had put in it, i gave the old man 900 bucks for it, i drove it for years until a u haul truck hit me and totalled it , i put a dog house on it and had the frame straightend and drove it a while and my friend wanyed it so i sold it and he drove it until last year when he passed away and his wife called me and gave it back to me for free, it's outside and still fires right up and dtives like a new on, no rust or dents and the interior is mint condition , im gonna paint it next month and then it will look like its new again they dont build cars like that anymore

@@ClassicRideSociety My parents had a 1978 and a 1980, two and four door respectively. My scout leader had a two-tone green 1979 Bonneville, and a neighbor had an '81 Brougham, similar to our 1980, but they had an Olds 307 V8 in theirs. They bought it new and the neighbor that had the shop out of his house worked on it for a time. By that time, around 1988, it was rough and really worn out. It wasn't long before it was gone.

That one was the entry level Bonn in 1979. No tilt, power windows or locks, vinyl seats, no cruise control or padded roof. Shame though solid car other than the bumper & rear lights swiped off it , bent up hood & grill assembly.

I'd buy that for the frame alone, one of the biggest trends out here in the West/Southwest is buying up these mid-late 70's and 80's (up to 1988 when they stopped the full frame car) and putting classic truck bodies on the frames and building cheap lowered hot rods that you can daily drive because the drive train is newer and better suited for it. Yeah you may have to modify the frame a little bit here and there but it's still alot cheaper in the long run, a custom frame would cost you anywhere from 10-15k, a 70's-80's full size will cost $800 and it comes with an engine, transmission and suspension, speaking of suspensions, you don't have to lower them because cars already sit lower than trucks do and there's other parts on the full size car that you can stripe off and sell because someone out there is looking a for back seat, a set of original hubcaps, a trunk lid or doors. I have a good friend that is in the process of putting a 58 Chevy Apache body on a 81 Chevy Caprice frame. Yeah the 58 Apache is an "Undesirable" truck as far as what people are building and yeah almost noone wants a 81 Caprice but combined he's going to have a pretty cool lowered hotrod on a VERY cheap budget, when it's all said and done he's going to have 5-6k into a cool ass hotrod, and that includes a full paint job.

Don't see too often 80s Pontiac Bonneville especially 80s near find Benny think made bubbletop 90s Bonneville aswell sane platform as Caprice
@googleusergp
@googleusergp 9 ай бұрын
No, the last Bonneville rear wheel drive would have been in 1986 on the "G" body platform. By the time the "bubble" Caprice came out in 1991, Pontiac didn't have an equivalent.
