I am going to watch every second and I am very happy you found this car and will save it. I have had a 1964 Bonneville Convertible for years now and just love it. I grew up with a 1965 Bonneville Convertible and so my love runs deep for these cars. The only thing I did, that I suggest anyone do, is make this a tandem brake system. I am not a disk brake conversion fan but making these pre 1967 cars tandem brakes is easy. It only takes a couple of lines, a straight fitting and a later tandem master cylinder. I did this within a week of buying mine and it gives such peace of mind. I also did this on a 1957 GMC. Whenever I see these with with a single cyl it almost causes pain! Mine is almost totally original down to the plastic timing gear teeth I found in the oil pan from where it failed in 1968 so I will do anything for safety of the car, me and others on the road. I think I just got a tandem cylinder for a 1968 Bonneville, some line and a fitting and it was done. On the GMC it has the waring lamp if one side is lost so that may be a good idea for your car? I have the 389ci so I am super happy you found a 421 and I get to see that. I only have the 5 lug wheels but other wise she is decked out like your car. I have the vacuum trunk release, speaker switch, power ant, factory A/C and remote side mirror and the dealer matching mirror on the right that they say is rare. Loving watching your video and seeing all the things I see when I pull Bon Bon out of my barn. I have several videos about mine on KZbin and some older ones on Odysee. If I can help in anyway let me know and I'll post a video for you or whatever. I've done that a few times for other guys but overall I think you have it all well in hand. @@ChiefClassics I did a walk around and video yesterday (now there are 2) and just posted it so you can see what I did. I think you'll like Bonnie. She was decked out like your Cat 2+2. I didn't look to see if anyone else talks about doing this on KZbin but I'm sure it's there somewhere. I think tandem systems were offered on some cars before it was law. I think AMC offered it and "Freemans Garage" talks about it. I bet Caddy & maybe Lincoln did too but I'm not sure. I did all of this work before I had a KZbin channel (Also a total Jaguar S1 E-Type rebuild) so I don't have a record dad gum it! ---- I just spent some time going over receipts and found the part numbers for what I used! That took some time. Anyway I made another video talking about that too & my VIN number & ACC meanings. I hope this will catch on so we don't have another classic ending up like that one that crashed. Bobby

What a beautiful car!! I love your building ❤ it reminds me of my Grandpa's barn that had steal beams for the haymont floor. I purchased a chain operating hoist, mounted on 1 of these huge beams and wow I could back in my truck run the hoist down to it unload and run the load back down the track as if it was nothing!! You have the ceiling to install such a system and I made my purchase at a farmers auction! Great show 👏 👍

yes canadian cars got the small blocks and big block chevs unfortunately, they are called the Parisienne 2+2 up until the late 70s i believe, we also had a Pontiac Acadian (nova)up until 1970 and a Pontiac Beaumont (chevelle) up until 1969 the Beaumont had a performance option called the SD (superduty) with the L78 375hp 396, you could still purchase a nova and a chevelle in canada and i believe get a small block chev factory in 1st gen firebirds, and in the lemans/tempest t37s we didnt have catalinas instead we had the Laurentian, the bonneville not sure about that, it was because of tariffs from cross border sales and shipping but those tariffs were abolished eventually in the late 60s

your chain is fine those hooks are not made for that. I had at least 3 Pontiac Grand Prix in the early 1970s. Definitely my favorite car and I have had a few cars. I still have a 1965 4-speed car in my garage. If memory is working it has the M-22 tranny with a mile-long tail shaft attached and the car has 8 bolt wheels so your channel and interests are echoed in my memories

@@ChiefClassics up until early seventies the GP was one of the finest bodies even the largest cars came out attractive and sticking with two doors helped. 65 had more coke bottle curves than the rest I think and the parking lights and grilles were really something special . Used them as running lights on overcast days when I could think of it . Today they would likely be always on , and l. E. D.

421 Exhaust manifolds are excellent. There's many surprises Pontiac put into the 421 engine. Read up on it, it's a powerful engine!

The later Pontiac heads are more than lowering compression on your engine. They are also set up for the New unleaded gas. The hardened seats hold up and do not end up recessing the valves into the head. I am actually running the Harder to find 5C heads from a Pontiac 350 Gives my .40 over 389 a decent 9 to one compression ratio and the ability to run regular old pump gas. As for your 421 in the Donner car. The car was a Standard shift but the low power version of the 421 It did not come with the HO exhaust manifolds. You still can purchase the Reproduction HO manifolds and the adapter for Pontiac. I believe the 4-speed was changed over to auto by the last owner. I'm surprised you did not clean up the transmission before the install.

My buddy had a white 66. It had a couple of odd features. It had 2 4 bbl. Carburetors. One was not hooked up to the gas pedal, it had string run through the firewall connected to it, and when he needed it he would grab the string and pull. Also it had a liquor bar behind the front seats that somehow would be able to pump booze and soda into a glass. It had an ice tray also.

Frame is a good source of patch pieces for someone who has a very nice car with no money and is only needed a little repair but it is hard to make a stamped piece on your home bench so I'm sure it will take on a new life getting as many other cars back as the first day it ran I had 3 66 impala 2 ss one 2dr ht and a drop top only 283 and a glide but it was mid 90s and then she got a tuned port 350 and the 700r4 was a 2004r grand national Trans and the 12 bolt it came with now I'm in my 40s ls is just as close to the old days and u just needed a 267-400 in your local junkyard to make it to work on Monday and Friday night she is going home with the one that we pulled in trunk days I was proud to have been tested in

6x-4 heads have a 93.75 cc chamber that should put the 421 at roughly 8.4:1 CR. Original 421 heads had 65 cc chambers putting CR at 11. Adding 30 cc's to a 65 cc chamber is considerable, thus 338 hp is now likely less and power is down at all engine rpms. Not bad yet noteworthy. Great content!

My older brother had a 61 Catalina convertible and a 65 Bonneville Convertible with the 421-4 speed, 8 lug wheels. Red with a white leather interior and white top. My mom had a blue-green 66 Catalina 9 passenger wagon with a 389-2 bbl "All Fuel Engine" that I have not been able to find any information on. My dream is to have another 66 Catalina wagon but I don't see that happening.

1:22:50 I'm confused a bit by this compression being better for regular fuel at that very low 8.5 to 1 or something like that, compared to the 11.5 to 1 like you mention here. I have a different engine than this beauty in one of my cars and it runs at 11.5 to 1 although it's a race derived S54 Straight six from the "M" division of BMW back in 2006. (3.2L). I guess there must be other reasons to this topic that matter to the the fuel types of course but I run no less than 91 RON and usually 94 RON (Because it's available in my area easily) from the pump in it. I wonder if I could run E85 in that baby safely?? I run a 40% E85 mix in my twin turbo 335i but it's tuned for it so I guess that would have to happen for sure before I could even think about it etc.

😊 I know it's been a month since you did the 421 engine Nice rockers but what I would have done if I were you I would have taken the intake off and taking it up to any local machine shop and had a glass beaded and it would have looked brand new that it charged you're probably 30 bucks at sandblasting with glass I'm sure you know that but it look like brand new then you could have replaced the valley pan with a brand new and it would have looked at incredible for just little or no money and a little more labor just a thought I'm a Pontiac addict but it's been a while since I had one I had a 69 formula 400 4 speed I put a cage in it thought it made it faster lol still a very very nice car I also had the last Pontiac I had was an 87 Grand Prix that I had really nice rims on and it was a aid out of a 10 as far as the body and interior should never got rid of that I should have just put a engine in it but should have could have would have😂😂😂😂 anything you ever need man I identity puppies for 30 years I'm a GM Master tech Chevrolet MasterTech and an ASE Master tech but I learned more doing the stuff on my own just like you're doing it than I ever learned at the GM training center trust me brother My name is Mark man peace holler anytime

Canadian cars got 327 or 396 I believe ? I had a 65 Pontiac Parisienne custom sport with a 327 - 300 hp camel 🐪 hump heads but i believe they also could have a 396.

Your advice about going to trade schools a good idea but if it's to become a mechanic I suggest going for heavy equipment mechanic they make the most money they usually start ten dollars higher per hour salary

In gas crisis it was only way to drive them so lowering the compression allowed to go to the junkyard and be able to use your car my uncle did it to a friend's car that had a hopped up sbc dz motor if I remember correctly from that he had the no bolt hole double hump heads

Doesn’t Pontiac 400 trance have electric down supposed to be attached to the gas pedal the wire comes from the trance on the left side as far as those carburetors Alden Brock I wouldn’t have one of those on mine. Had one on my goat, kept messing up for me a good carburetor, put it on it have no problem now run a second better than dead before but that’s just me doing a good job.

When you drive a black top convertible with top up on a baking hot day you’ll understand why A/C is necessary in a convertible. I personally hate them cause you get badly sunburned and your interior gets sunbaked and searing hot with top down.

the 1970 Canada 2+2 got 454 Chevy ls5 390 hp .Why not clean and paint the trans after doing that to the engine you can get Silver trans paint ! oh you can get taller factory style valve covers that clear but look stock .
