This was so awesome to view this game again. Vernon Perry had a game for the ages! 5 takeaways! I'll never forget this game or my team in Columbia Blue!

This is one of those miracle games where defense 100% won this game and especially Vernon Perry. To win with your back up QB and backup running back that really do much on offense is really shows what defenses can do. For the Chargers this really was dropping the ball. Had a good chance for the AFC Championship game. The next year was their big and really only shot for a Super Bowl. Having the AFC Championship at home against the Raiders and they crapped the bed. Couldn't get that ball back for that one last drive.

They spotted Oakland too big of a early lead. Having a fumbler like Muncie didn’t help.

Gifford Nielson did a very solid job of managing the game on Offense though. Great game to remember and watch again after all these years. Getting me in the Mood for Browns @ Texans this Weekend. Go Texans!

Remember the talk out of San Diego after this loss. They said we figured out their signals, and were jumping on the pass routes because we knew exactly where they were going.
@tomcollins51123 жыл бұрын
They did steal their signals. There was even a write-up in Sports Illustrated about it.
@macpipkin9 ай бұрын
@@tomcollins5112 problem is the Oilers didn’t steal anything. Eddie Biles figured out the system. Wade Phillips looked for the signals and called them in to the defense. Even at that, the only player who knew the play was Bingham who put the team in the appropriate defense for the play. Name the NFL team who passes on this opportunity after figuring out the other team’s code. Name the rule that was broken…

Been waiting for this game forever! I loved both teams during this time. This was the upset of the 1979 playoffs. Vernon "F-ing" Perry

This is the greatest upset in playoff history, especially under the circumstances. Namath's Jets will always get the notoriety, but this was an incredible team effort.

The infamous signal stealing game. The Chargers probably had the best team in the NFL that year. They handily beat the Steelers and Rams during the regular season.

I see how they stole the signals for that field goal try.

It was easy to figure out what the chargers were going to do since they were so one demensional on offense

Games like this show why San Diego could never win a Super Bowl. They had everything on a silver platter and still couldnt get it done. Maybe Pittsburgh lost in the regular season, but in the playoffs and Super Bowl they always took care of business.

Why did the FG get taken off the board? ( 51:20 )
@jeffeby9163 Жыл бұрын
Chargers had 12 men on the field (you can count them on the video). That made it 4th and about a foot, so the Oilers took the penalty and went for it. A critical mistake by the Chargers (one of many).

Fouts threw those interceptions when there wasn't a Charger receiver anywhere near the ball. Poor game play by the Chargers, especially after having beaten the Steelers so soundly.

The editing leaves much to be desired. Too much important points offered by Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen between plays were completely omitted by abrupt interruptions.

Wow the Chargers had the 2nd best defense in 1979, facing a injury ridden Oilers team and choke artist Fouts finds a way to lose another big game. How is this clown in the Hall of fame?? He was outplayed by Jim Plunkett in 1980, by Ken Anderson in 1981, not to mention Gifford Nielsen in 1979, but it's loser Fouts who is in the Hall? Fouts was a good thrower, but he wasn't a good quarterback. His teams had top defenses in 1979,80,81 but he sucked when it counted.
@terrencedavis9921 Жыл бұрын
81 was understandable because of the conditions in Cincinnati. 79 and 80 were two inexcusable losses. Especially this game. Absolutely awful.
@humanbeing242011 ай бұрын
Fouts had a horrendous game this day, but he wasn't a "clown". You sound silly calling him one.
