1979 Yamaha YZ250 tight and race-ready for the AHRMA and other vintage racing events.
At the time video was made, bike is for sale and listed on eBay.
A second video showing the bike being started and ridden is forthcoming. A big thunderstorm ruined my immediate plans!

Bought a new 1979 YZ 250F when i was a junior in high school in Ft.Worth TX.. Put a Fox Shock and Simons Forks on it. Loved racing that bike. I was 6'2" 245lbs coming out of the 125 class.

I had one back in HS (about 1982 or 83) bought from a friend for $20.00 just rebuilt motor, he sold it to me because he didn't want it, the mono shock was shot and the carb needed to be adjusted. he came over one day and we adjusted the carb, the bike was so fast he was begging me to sell it back...lol no way baby! it was a great bike.

I had a 79 yz400f that i rebuilt and sold a few years ago, looks like you did a great job. id give anything to have mine back. i saw your test ride video too, looks like you are a vintage motocross racer. very nice. wish i could get my dad to ride with me again! hes 52 years old. i stick to modern bikes now, but id sure love to get my hands on another vintage bike just to have around. thanks for sharing before you sold it.

Where's the metal gas tank? I had a 78' yz80E & it had a metal tank. Must of been when they switched to plastic. I also had a 76' yz100D with a metal tank. Your right about the "F" at the end of 250. My cousin had 1 just like yours. Seems like his had a plastic tank too.

@silk7021 Power bands don't kick in at at 1/4 throttle and really have nothing to do with throttle. Power band or "band" is a term to describe the range of R.P.Ms that a motor puts out the most usable power. The best "Powerband" would be a linear one across the entire rev range with no "Kick in" at a certain RPM. Torque curve is another acronym for powerband. BTW the bike in this video IS an F model. Oversized jets would make your bike run rich, slow and foul plugs.

Bought a 80 yz250G for $125, all I did is fix a broken wire from the stator going to the cdi and rode it once to make sure everything works, these things are fast! pops the front end up like nothing. I am going to restore it, do you have any good sites or tips for me I love this bike!. Yours looks great!!

Wrong, pal. It was, and still is, a 1979 YZ250F. Long before the four-stroke YZ's and most likely long before you were born. Learn a bit of history.

majorKAP All 1978 YZ's were E's and all 1980 YZ's were G's. The first YZ's in 1974 were A's. F here is the series number and is not designating that its a four stroke or a two stroke
