Oh thanks for the explanation for the comes from the crankcase breather so it just goes from the crankcase breather on the back of the motor right to the air cleaner

It does. Kind of a neat old system.

Merry Merry Christmas just came across one of your videos. I've got that plastic piece I've had for years it's a little bent from the heat. But it's still intact I've seen how much they want on eBay for those things oh boy.. and a Happy New Year

I’ve sold a few nice ones and have gotten pretty good money for them. Common piece that warped and fell apart.

Nice thing about those Shovelhead FLTs is that an Evo will bolt right in.

I owned a 1980 FLH back in the day. 80 cubic inch. One great running engine. All you had to make sure you had in the saddle bag, a set of points and a condenser. Some clothes hanger wire and a couple of wrenches.

They’re great bikes for sure. One of my favorites. Easy to keep basic tools and parts in the bag!

I ride one every day in the uk weather. 1980 FLT. It has points now, because the electronics are shite. Points are reliable, I do carry spares, and tools. It's a vintage engine. If you can't look after one, let someone else, before they are all gone.

Yup, when you buy a 44 yo machine that’s been used, it’s got some wear on it. These machines are getting rare. Hope you don’t cannibalize it. All the best.

Agreed. They always have wear and a lot of backyard fixes on them. Appreciate the well wishes

i have been riding a 1980 FLT for the last 40 years, what do you what to know about it.
@Rockeys_Chop_Shop10 ай бұрын
That’s so awesome! I guess what are things that someone may not know about this model?
@allensooter274310 ай бұрын
Well, the exhaust is stock Harley, it is the first year of rubber mount, 5speed and i think in 80 inch. The chain runs in an oil bath that lasts for almost ever, the ignition is the weekest part, i changed to points 30 years ago. Too bad about the fairing and dash, but you can find them. Also the primary cover is about 2 inches shorter than the FL and FLH. @@Rockeys_Chop_Shop
@Rockeys_Chop_Shop10 ай бұрын
First year for the 80" was 1978. Yes this is the first year 5 speed. I did know that these had the oil bath system which I think is neat. I did not realize that the exhaust was stock. I have not had the chance to see if this is stock ignition or not. This is the same inner and outer primary as the FXR, I believe.@@allensooter2743

Where can I get a fuel bottle like that?
@Rockeys_Chop_Shop10 ай бұрын
This is a Motion Pro brand auxiliary fuel bottle. I bought it right from their website. There are other companies that offer the same or similar styles as well. eBay amazon etc…

The key is the one that says "Briggs and Stratton" on it. For real. No fuses. Only a circuit breaker on the battery. I remember that shake. Welds would break. Never re-install a camshaft or a stator.
@Rockeys_Chop_Shop10 ай бұрын
Oh yeah. I’ve seen those keys. The keys for this are in the mail. Just waiting on them. Would like to see inside the fuel tank and saddlebag. I’ve seen a lot of broken welds on these old ones.

The clickty clack sound? Head noise. My 2001 sportster made that noise too and the Harley Tech said that was normal but it still bothered me. So as soon as the rings seated and broke in a 500 miles I switched oil to castrol syntec 20W50 and all of the head noise went away. It sounded like a different engine, smooth and silky.
