You really need to put a muffler on with those CV diaphragm carbs. Those carbs need the correct air flow in order to fully open and close. Taking the muffler off will cause the diaphragms to not be able to rise fully causing you to lose power and run extremely lean. With a CV carburetor you cannot change the air box or the exhaust otherwise you have to fully change the internals of the for it to work correctly.
