I have religiously done all 5 mods to every bike I have owned the last 25 years. But the mod that gave me the most acceleration, speed, handling, breaking, and the most attention from the girls at bike night, was loosing 50lbs off my midsection. I was like going from a CB250 to a CBR1000XX

A word of advice: no two bikes are the same so it's better to combine the PC with Autotune (wideband sensor). The online maps are a good point to START from. They won't be perfect by any means. The advantages of adjusting AFR in real life conditions vs static dynoshop will get you the best results. Another great advantage of the PCV + Autotune combo is that you can add a switch to either load a specific map or have Autotune online real-time to adjust AFR in relation to your current conditions (different elevations, weather conditions, etc).

Great presentation. I " optimised " my 2009 Bonneville with all the above considerations. One thing I'll advise on staying alive grounds is not to up the front sprocket from 18 to 19 tooth thinking that the power will be there but on longer legs... The longer legs are there but the top end poke is gone at 85 max. OK for Chugger types but potentially deadly in half challenging road riding situations

I mean I know what you're saying but generally when people think faster, its more hp/tq, but for cornering, which lets be honest, practice would be #1 on that list. But it's hard to incorporate a list for all types of riding and racing. tracks like wide soft slicks, won't necessarily apply to street bikes, enduros, trials bikes. 1. Develope skill & confidence (shifting points, brake/throttle points, entry & exit lines, tire position/ feel) 2. Tires: appropriate size & material grade 3. aggressive suspension setup & upgraded brakes 4. steering damper 5. lighter components (driver included)

"It's easier to throw money at things than it is to spend time to improve oneself." It's too bad most can't afford track time. I can't afford track time nor have the time. However, it doesn't stop me from practicing and exercising fundamentals skills from drills in a large parking lot to setting a driving line while in a corner.

I can't tell you how many times I have had a conversation with a guy, and he was just sure he could tell by 'seat of the pants' feel that he only needed one of these add ons to make 20 more HP. I have a ZRX1200. Going down a tooth makes the bike faster and I don't loose any top end. Since the top speed comes in way below the red line, by going down a tooth in the front lets the engine rev a tad higher in top gear, hence for a stock ZRX, "It's a win win !" By the way, great video. I follow all of your videos, you do a great job and are very informative. Barry

Hey man, love your channel. Its been very helpful for a novice rider like me. I have a question about these mods though. I have a Honda cb500f. If i were to apply the mods in this vid to my bike, what would the increase of power look like? Ive looked all over the internet for other cb500 owners that mod their bikes and there are plenty but i bever get a straight answer. And no, ik not buying a bigger bike, i love my cb500f, im just curious about its hidden potential.

You wouldn't see any increase in power at all, that's not how it works. You'd certainly feel an increase in power though. If we were to quantify what the power would look like without using interpretive dance, I'd say it would look like a cross between a small section of thatched roof and a sturdy yellow umbrella. Hope that helps.

Imo DNA airfilter is better. And reflashing instead of a powercommander makes you able to adjust more than just air/fuel ratio. Maybe you could make a video about reflashing? I did that on my bike and what a difference! :-) All those sleepy factoryhorses are now unleashed and kicking! :-)

Flashing & Tuning definitely makes a huge difference compared to a simple PC5. I had my ZX-10R flashed and tuned this winter and it also unlocked the autoblipping (clutchless downshifts) mechanism. The bike just feels awesome now.

Piggyback computers worked in the old days by advancing the timing and requiring you to use premium fuel, basically trading safety-factor for a few hp, but this is all automatic on modern engines with knock sensors. O2 sensors and airflow sensors keep the mixture in the ideal range. So...what exactly is there to change?
@AKAMustang
@AKAMustang 7 жыл бұрын
Was going to leave a comment about reflashing, but I'll just thumb this one up instead. Oh and if you're thinking of changing sprocket sizes try plugging in the numbers to gearingcommander.com, paying special attention to the "Same Tooth - Same Link" section.

Ideal in a manufactors point of view. They have to maks engines that pass the Euro4 emissons and noisereductions. It's a compromise between what customers want and laws and rules the bikes must respond to. So without those compromises, we can unleash the horses at the whole revrange, with no lean mixture at certain revs due to regulations. That's why!

Great video Ryan. Quick question does removing your db-killer increase your performance in anyway?
@FortNine
@FortNine 7 жыл бұрын
Potentially - some dB killers create more back pressure in the exhaust system. If you remove it, the bike could breathe more air (depending what you having going on at the air intake). As a result you'd get more power if your fuel delivery was sorted accordingly. But we're talking fractions of a hp here... the major difference is just noise and a minor side effect is slightly worse fuel economy (back pressure forces some un-burned gas vapor back into the cylinder, so it's kinda handy). ~RyanF9

Rosstinelli it depends on the design of your camshaft, on some bikes you might even loose horsepower if you lower the backpressure
@RT22-pb2pp
@RT22-pb2pp 6 жыл бұрын
Maybe a fraction but the noise will just draw cops attention and piss more people off at all bikers. Dumbest thing in the world is making a bike LOUD serves no real purpose. Pipe was designed by engineers for power and quiet. To get real power increase pipe would be designed for free flow and also other factors, not designed in stock pipe with just baffles removed.To get real power rejetting on carbs or remapping on injectors with free flowing intake is only way to get real power boost from more free flowing exhaust. Engine is a air pump and gas burner, you need more air and gas in and more exhaust out to really improve performance, and must be matched and balanced. 1 by itself many times lowers power as system is no longer balanced, ask any engine builder most pipe even good aftermarkets that are usually louder will increase top end power to free flow but lack of back pressure down low kills low end and midrange, no free lunches. Back in the day stock pipes were very restrictive and a pipe helped a good bit but that is no longer true.

how about the purpose of not getting run over by other drivers who would then stand over your dead body and say 'i didn't realise he was there". not to say bikes need window shattering volume, but a decent level does make you safer on the road.

Do EFI engines run lean when you reduce the restriction on your intake and exhaust? Don't they have sensors and adjust automatically?
@TheLouisianan
@TheLouisianan 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know how complicated motorcycles are with fuel injection, but on a car or truck if you put an aftermarket cat back exhaust and a CAI then most any vehicle can adjust for the A/F ratio without tuning it. Tuning is usually for changing the timing of the fuel injection, not the pulse width or dwell on time for the actual fuel delivery.

This is from ebc website, actually leaving me with more questions about that. "GPFAX Sintered Road Race Brake Pads have by far the highest known friction with a measurement between 0.6 and 0.7 and deliver the most amazing brake effect. Because of this factor, they are unsuitable for street use or for road tyres. "

I know that for cars, track pads are very bad at low temperature and very good at high temperature. So it's bad on the street because you can't get them up to temp.
@djflegg
@djflegg 7 жыл бұрын
specialist race pads are designed to work at their best under extreme load, heat, friction etc. Conditions that won't be found on day to day Road riding. They are also designed to be used in conjunction with race spec tyres, suspension, and very high rider skill. again things that aren't common on the road. even if the pads performed brilliantly in normal conditions, the lack of specialist tyres and suspension would likely make them more dangerous than good, doesn't matter how good your stopping power is if the forks are going to bottom out, or your tyres are going to melt off, you aren't going to stop nicely.

Hi Ryan, I really enjoy your videos, but as a motorcycle mechanic, I have to take issue with your comment about chains and sprockets. Unless your chain and sprockets are new or nearly new, you must change them as a complete set. I've seen too many new sprockets worn out very quickly (
@Herzankerkreuz67
@Herzankerkreuz67 7 жыл бұрын
ruckus48 The front sprocket has to turn 3 times in order for the rear to turn one time, right ? (Guess that's about the ratio) That means the front sprocket wears out three times faster. The most wear on your chain results from a worn out front sprocket. Hence it is ok to change front sprocket since it will give you a longer life span on the whole chain and sprocket combination, given good maintenance .... At least that's my experience (50000 km with one chain, one rear and three front sprockets)
