it was a different world in the 80s maybe about 6 or 7 quality jockeys, only about 5 wud pass 50 winners, despite this racing was much better then than the 7 day a week sport it is now

@@shaunspadah5790 By the end of the decade Pipe and Scudamore had laid the path for what became for norm of larger strings, more runners, more rides and more winners than we had seen previously. Dunwoody and then McCoy took it on. Body protectors, medical advancement and a 12-month season helped too. Fewer horses in training, fewer races, more trainers and no single set of owners had all the good horses. Remember the big stables - strings of 60 or less - normally ran their seasons between September and early May and usually employed two stable jockeys. Dickinson alone had Earnshaw, Bradley, Beggan, Browne plus Jonjo and Francome when available. Outside that the ground was often firm or hard as courses didnt have the watering infrastructure we do today. Racing became more commercial by the late 80s than it had been at the start. We definitely gained something, but certainly lose something too in the process.
